...or to avoid other additional compensation paid?
My first inclination is to say, "No, they are always trying to win games," but is there any evidence of this happening?
I ask because I have Brandon Lloyd. Ever since he was traded to St. Louis, Rotowire seems to be having a countdown on his # of catches. Their latest entry:
This isn't the first time they have mentioned this total. If this really is not an issue, wtf do they keep bringing it up?

I'm sure it happens when it's close and a team is in the final game of the season. in this case, the difference between a 5th and a 6th isnt substantial to the point where a team will sit a guy to avoid making the payment.
-
I saw this this morning and am really hoping the Chiefs make the claim. Todd Haley is fighting for his job, so I am sure he will do what he can to make it happen.
makes sense. but will orton fall that far in the waiver wire?
I personally think someone else will take him before they get the option.

Once this happens one week and a team essential gets a "free" win against this team, I don't think you can now make a change and make it more difficult for his opponents going forward. I would send an email, text message, or call the guy and ask him to please stay involved in the league and submit a lineup. But I do not think it is your place to now set his lineup for him, unless of course the league is unanimously in favor of it.
My leagues have a rule where if a team that is mathematically eliminated from playoff contention submits a lineup with a player on a bye or that is clearly injured and not playing, the commishioner will insert the highest scoring player to date on his bench that fits the position. If they don't have a bench player to fill the position, the commishioner will insert the highest scoring player on the waiver wire to that date. The commish hasn't had to do it, but the rule is in place in case he does.
I agree with this in general, however you usually dont know until game time whether the lineup has been submitted.
I would suggest:
1) if said lineup is incomplete the first time, the Owner in question gets a warning from the commish. sometimes it does happen that life happens to people and an emergency takes someone away from fantasy football for a week or so.
2) if it happens a second time, an automatic lineup correction is done by commmish as noted in the previous post(quoted above).
3) if #2 happens, the commish must petition the league to suspend the owners right to the franchise and seek out another owner. commish to run the team in the interim or assign a committee to run the team.
4) if the league votes it down it effectively becomes another warning, but if it happens again in the same year, the league does not have the option to vote. he is OUT.

Cleveland "had" one of the better O-lines in football. Losing Steinbach for the season has destroyed their o-line. Thomas and Mack are studs, but the rest is garbage. A rookie 5th rd pick at left guard. A 2nd year 3rd round pick at right guard who is very raw. And a terrible, injury prone turn stile at right tackle. Their offensive line has been the biggest problem as far as running and giving McCoy protection. Last week was the first 100 yard rusher for Cleveland all season, and their first rushing td since week 2 against the Colts. Look elsewhere.
ok good points. no depth and a key injury.
I havnt seen them play recently either. sometimes the replacement comes in and does well for the run but poorly for the pass or vice versa. I cannot comment on what the case is here.

I think it depends on the situation.
most times, Revis covers the other teams #1 WR. but in cases where it isnt fully clear cut, he will move around. Maybe they'd use him to cover one guy, and double cover a second guy. I have noticed that the #3 WR against the Jets sometimes puts up better numbers against this defense than the #1 and #2.
This, I think is the case in New York. Overall the jets are a pretty good Defense anyhow, so I would still expect subpar numbers from Nicks but I dont know if I would expect him to be unstartable.
I'd guess 50-60 yards and maybe a TD

Outside of week 15, this schedule looks ridiculously tough for Ogbo, Hardesty or Hillis.
12 @Cin
13 Bal
14 @Pit
15 @Ari
16 @Bal
17 Pit
Cleveland has one of the better O-lines in football. I have to believe that eventually someone will emerge and put up some good numbers. I know it's a tough schedule, but not a lot of teams run block like this team either.

i'm not arguing who will and won't win the game. you can think the packers will win, that's fine. just don't use stupidity to make your decision.
go the rick perry route and keep it simple. you can say the packers are going to crush the lions and leave it at that. but when you start giving your "reasons," you start making people go
about your knowledge.
good post.

Plummer's a nitwit.
"I don't hate him because of that; I just would rather not have to hear that every single time he takes a good snap or makes a good handoff ...
Yeah, because that's what happens, Jake.
Guy gets interviewed and says what hundreds of athletes/musicians/actors/celebrities say everytime they're interviewed for an award/accomplishment: some variation on "Well, first I have to thank my Lord, Jesus Christ..."
Maybe Plummer, who walked away from the game due to his lack of passion, just has a problem with people who do have passion for something.
Just to be clear: I don't believe in god. Don't go to church. Don't praise his name, thank him for things that happen in my life, or prosletize to the heathens. Hell, I don't say grace. Not a Florida or Denver fan.
But I do admire people that have the strength and courage of their own convictions, especially when all indications are that those convictions are positive, come with no strings, and appear genuine. By all accounts, that's Tebow. If you truly have no gripe with someone other than the fact that they steadfastly believe in something and aren't ashamed to try to spread a positive message, you're just looking to criticize and can't find a legitimate reason to do so.
It just intrigues me that Tebow gets more heat for saying "Jesus" on TV where anyone could be watching, than Lee Corso gets for saying "fock" in the same situation.
Hey, I believe in god myself, but plummer does bring up a valid point. You dont need to publicly thank god for everything. In fact, it is my belief that God probably has better things to concern himself than football. I'd be surprised if hes even a football fan.
I acknowlede that Plummer was known as a guy with no passion or no heart, but religion (or his lack thereof) likely had very little to do with how this played out on the field. There are plenty of non religious people who play with heart, and there are some religious people I know who play with no heart. it's not about that. its about a persons passion for the game.
That being said, I dont care if someone thanks the good lord for winning the super bowl or something of the sort, but to say it in every stinking interview is overkill. I believe that this is the point Plummer was making and I think it is a valid one.

Pretty uneducated post but it's to be expected I guess when considering the source.
Bears and Lions can create problems for the Packers because they can get pressure on Rodgers from their front 4.
Packers D gives more than it takes away.
This should be a very close game. Green Bay can expect Detroit's very best shot. This is a huge game for Detroit and I'm assuming they've learned from losing their heads in the Chicago game. I think they'll be playing smarter.
well, I think it will be close, but the Lions D-Line is very physical and could cause the pack problems. I would expect that this is the key to victory if the Lions are going to win.

I would think they would still get a 1st rounder at his age (assuming his neck checks out).
If Manning can play, there are definitely teams that would pay a 1st for him. At this point, we dont know the state of his health and it would be foolish to speculate.
The colts likely have a better idea of where he is at.
here are my thoughts:
If Manning is out for life, or expected to return and expected to play at a high level for less than 2 years, they will draft Luck.
If they feel manning can come back and play at a high level for longer than 2 years, I'd expect them to trade the rights to him.
My rationale: they can easily justify sitting Luck on a bench behind manning for up to a season and a half. Beyond that it gets tough to justify sitting such a huge talent, and the team would likely try to win another championship before Manning fades into the sunset (so to speak).

Here's someone who agrees with me:
I asked our man Matt Williamson of Scouts Inc. what he thought of Murray and of this debate, and this is what he emailed back:
"You certainly cannot argue with his production. Pretty amazing really. But overall, I see a decisive downhill runner with good size, burst, power and speed. He was drafted to be a huge help as a receiver and was considered one of the most pass-friendly RBs in this past draft, but we haven’t seen a lot of that yet. But I would imagine we will soon. But I also think that Murray is very straight-linish. He does not change directions smoothly or crisply. Big picture, I still think Jones has more talent, but Murray has more sustaining qualities and physicality. Both need to play, but as it stands today, I would probably give Murray 2/3 of the carries when Jones comes back."
I'd agree. Even if the coaching staff wanted to start Felix, they wont bring him back and give him a full workload. Murray will get at least one more start with Felix getting about 8-10 carries.
At that point anything could happen, but I do believe that regardless of who is listed as the starter.....if Jones can keep healthy, this will evolve into a committee situation. If jones gets hurt again, Murray will become the permanent starter unless his production proves he cannot handle it.

'With Earnest Graham (injured reserve, Achilles) out, LeGarrette Blount expects to be the Bucs' primary third-down back going forward.
We're skeptical Blount is capable of handling the role in the long-term. He's really just an early-down bruiser that has a total of nine catches in 18 career NFL games. Look for the Bucs to quickly realize that Kregg Lumpkin is a better option in passing situations. But for now, Blount gets a little boost in PPR formats.'
I dont know about this analysis. Players like Blount, who have lots of power are usually good quality third down backs. The issue would be in having another RB that can go in a couple of series to give him enough rest during the middle of the game.

Looks like Garrard is not in the mix.
-
Do some homework and maybe you will be able to answer the question yourself. No one knows if they will put the ir tag on him until it happens. Sick of these posts.
I heard he was recovering nicely and a little quicker than anticipated. Because of this, I suspect Manning does not want to go on IR because he feels he will be back on the field this year.
how realistic this is, I really couldnt say.
However, if the colts lose about 3 more games, it may not matter. They may be best advised to give him the rest of the year to get his health back.
-
DAVID ###### GARRARD. Remember that 2007 playoff game jags vs pats... Dude is a good QB but stuck in JAX. A team so dysfunctional they cut their only shot at a .500 team to start a rookie that has showed absolutely nothing.
I agree.
He never had any high end talent to work with, and a coach who is borderline nuts.
He's a pretty good game manager from what I've seen. While I'm not sure he will win games by himself, he wont usually lose them for you, and that's all you really need in a run based offense like Oakland has.
and the price is right. They dont give up draft picks or players, all they give up is some cash. They may have to sign him to a 2 year deal to get it done, but I dont see that as a huge problem.
With Orton, they will have to give up a player or a draft pick, and they'd still be on the hook for likely more cash than they'd pay for Garrard.
I do think Orton is the better QB, but to ask the division rival Broncos to send him your direction is probably a tall order.
This is why I think this is the option they will consider.
-
I think he is still a WR1. Bradford will need to learn that even if Lloyd looks covered to just throw it to him and good things can happen, because of this I think it will take a game or two for them to synch up.
I'd agree.
while I think Lloyd will adjust fairly quickly, I think it will take 2 games to get used to the new QB.
I wouldnt start him this week, but I might start him next week if he were on my roster.

How's Blount look for the long haul? Is the knee worse then it seems?
I've been offered Blount and Gonzo for Wells. I have Finley, but could use another good TE. Should I pull?
I think it depends on what your team looks like and what the rules of your league would be....
first: does Gonzo help you at TE? He is no longer elite, but he is serviceable.
Second: is the league a keeper or a redraft league?
third: do you have another RB that can get it done while waiting for Blount to return to the lineup?
Fourth: if this is a keeper league, where are you in the standings? in the hunt? or playing for next year?
You need to ask yourself all of these questions. I cant give you a good answer because I dont know what your lineup looks like or what the rules of your league are.
to that end, I will do the best I can:
Blount is better than Wells when healthy. no question about that. Blount isnt healthy. Beanie is healthy, but has a bit of a history of getting hurt so the fact he has offered up Gonzo likely means he is acknowledging this.
The deal looks fair. That's all I'm willing to say at this time.

I wonder if this is true even. How dumb. Promote a young QB to start and trade away the best receiver on the team. Denver makes me :puke: as a football fan.
I cannot guarantee this is the case, but there are some players that only seem to be able to perform under one coach.
perhaps Lloyd is one of those guys.
McDaniels was able to make him a star, but the new coach maybe is unable to get the same performance out of him.
It is entirely possible that the only team this guy has any value for is the rams.
of course, all of this is speculation, but it does happen sometimes.
-
So, what happens if he isn't traded? I'm sure he'll be thrilled to play for Denver now.
this is just the media spouting crap.
who knows if Denver is even shopping him at all. They can spin the situation to suit their purposes. The only way it is an actual problem is if Denver announces they are trading him and the deal falls through
-
Why would you give up a third round pick when you are clearly still in the middle of rebuilding?
you cant have a young QB with nobody to throw to. if they dont bring someone in for him, they run the risk of ruining his confidence and him as a player.
Lloyd would give him that veteran presence he needs and I think it would be a good move. Especially if they can do it for the price of a 4th round pick. a 3rd may be a little steep, but I figure it's this or pay someone like Owens or Moss big bucks to play.
-
Well, I have Decker. I'm not happy about this development, but I'm not dropping him yet.
I'll give him a couple of weeks to develop chemistry with Teebow. But I have no high hopes at this point.
-
No way. They sold their soul for Kolb. Can't abandon after 5 weeks. Whisenhunt is the one on the hot seat there, not the QB.
Kolb is still basically a rookie starter. ie. he has played less than 1 full season.
they will give him a full year to get up to speed.
-
How about Decker.
With Orton at QB I expect he puts up decent numbers. With Teebow I have my doubts......

all kneel downs after
well, I was thinking of dropping Bush (my McFadden handcuff) for him, but this injury scares me a bit.
Please post when news becomes available on this.

I agree.
if you are going to charge for transactions, you give teams x number of transactions for free (I'd say 25 per year or 2 per week) and a charge for each transaction over and above the minimum.
This way, you only penalize those who to an excessive number of transactions.
