  1. You know, I gotta say he ran like a man possessed today. The houston offense looks twice as dangerous with him in the lineup.

I wasnt totally sold on him as a top tier player until I saw what he did for that offense today.

If he continues to play like this, I may have to call myself a fan.

  2. I dont know about everyone here, but I did not draft Starks to be a fantasy starter. I expected a quality backup who could possibly start on bye weeks and has a chance to start to put up some numbers by year end.

I dont think he played particularly bad today. he just didnt get a TD. That will happen sometimes. What matters is that the offense itself did well with him in the lineup. This bodes well for his long term fantasy value even if his fantasy numbers weren't huge.

The real reason he didnt put up numbers is that the pass game was so dominant that they did not need to run the ball often to balance things out.

ie. when you find a way to beat a team, you keep doing what you are doing until they show they can stop you. In this case, the pass game couldnt be stopped, so why run the ball?

either way, to jump on and off the bandwagon for the results of one game can be.... not good for your fantasy team.

  3. Ryan Grant and Daniel Thomas have been ruled out for week 4. In the first 3 weeks, Foster, Steven Jackson, Beanie, Hillis, Charles, and Moreno have all missed at least 1 game. With 8 starting backs having missed time already, this label of DMC as being oh-so-"injury-prone" is pretty silly.

    I will concede that point.

However he hasn't played a full season since he's been in the NFL. He has never played more than 13 games in a year.

I still think it is a concern of sorts.

  4. I own him and I'd be lying if I told you I wasnt at least a little concerned about his injury history.

With that being said, he has adjusted his running style somewhat and he does not run upright to the same degree he did before. This will help make him less prone to injury.

Otherwise, I just hope he keeps it together. hes been getting nicked up a bit of late, and I hope he can remain productive.

  5. i'm struggling to see this. all season grant was the running down guy and starks was the passing down back... you think now starks is going to do the running downs and green is going to take starks' role? just seems odd to me

    That's because it is odd.

However, with that being said, Green has the ability to catch balls. So Noting that Green is a passing down sort of player...... when the occasion comes up when you have to give starks a rest (which will happen from time to time) are you going to insert Green when they want to run the ball, or when they want to pass the ball?

it is a legitimate question to ask. The problem is that we do not yet know the answer. (not for sure anyhow)

  6. I'd do this. And then immediately trade the GB RB combo for a player you can start for your team. People are sitll high on Starks for some reason (it's going to be a yo-yo like split all season) so he has value.

    I would agree with this.

The pair have more value together than they do individually.

I would expect someone would consider buying if you sold them both together. Then you can hopefully get one player who can start, and then you will be able to pick up another player on the WW

  7. Pick this guy up ASAP. It's a risk but I can almost guarantee he gets picked up by the Cardinals, possibly the Bungles. Either way this guy will have an impact especially if he goes to the Cards. Beanie is already banged up and Slaton is miles above Chester Taylor and LaRod.

I actually drafted him our auction the year he exploded onto the scene. I like what he brings to the table, but there are some issues:

    1) Hanging onto the ball. #1 issue. if he can address this, he may be fine.

    2) his weight/Speed. in the off season after his big year, he put on some weight in the hope of making himself more durable. I thought by adding the weight, he also lost some of his speed and elusiveness that made him such a prized back. I have not seen him play since his benching and dont know if he has changed his workout program to get the speed back, but if I'm drafting the guy, this is something that would be important to me.

I dont deny he could be a player of interest. But if he cant hang onto the ball, no team will want him.

  8. I have been offered Chris Johnson and Denaruis Moore (throw in) for Best and Mike Williams. I dont like having 3 Lions - should I make this trade?? Thanks for your thoughts in advance! :headbanger:

    I have:

    QB Stafford

    RB Best

    RB Blount

    RB F. Jones

    RB Wells

    (Start 2)

    WR Nicks

    WR Calvin Johnson

    WR Marshall

    WR Mike Williams

    (Start 3)

    TE Finley

I know it seems risky cuz of his slow start, but CJ has a long track record of doing well and he is still young.

from a roster perspective, you can afford to give up Mike williams as he likely isnt even a starter on your team.

I'd make the deal. I know there is a chance this could hurt you, but it is also a deal that could potentially put you over the top if CJ returns to form. I suspect it's just a slow start due to his sitting out of training camp. Go for it and let the chips fall where they may.

  9. I wasn't doubting Casey's athletic ability, just trying to point out some things (and I didn't even mention Foster). Casey may be like Josh Cribbs, a player who is great in real-life, but mediocre to fantasy geeks because he does too many little things well, and not one thing elite. (Actually in Cribbs' case, he is elite in all phases of special teams).

As for Watson, if it's PPR, you can do way worse. The guy is a pro and has Colt's trust. His 5-for-60 is the norm to expect. As for Moore, the injury risk is there, but the Browns seem to be doing whatever they can to prevent it. What I mean is since his injury history is concussions, they seem to only be using him in the red zone, and occassionaly lining him up outside (where he's up against a smaller corner or safety). If they keep doing that, Moore could realistically have 10 TDs with only having 35 or so catches. At the same time, Watson is a sure bet for 60 catches, but may only get 3-4 TDs. It just depends on the format. In PPR, Watson is the clear choice, TD heavy, both are similar with the edge to Moore.

I dont know a ton about Casey, but I saw him in the game the other day, and I think he is better than Cribbs already.

The difference, is that Casey seems to be able to do good reads and run good patterns. (at least some of the time) where Cribbs appears to be a million dollar talent with a 10 cent head.

of course, I reserve my right to change my mind on Casey as I have only seen him play once. B)

  10. a guy in my league just traded Vick and Thomas Jones for Cutler and Moreno.

this is just an FYI for those who are thinking about trading him. I am not sure how reflective this is of market value, but it seems to make sense for both teams.

  11. I drafted Starks in my auction for a buck.

A development like this is not unexpected. When a clear cut Veteran RB starter has an upstart (in this case Starks) come in and take a lot of the reps, the veteran often gets choked and has some kind of hissy fit behind closed doors with the coach.

The standard procedure in these cases for the coach is to use the situation to attempt to motovate both runners to do better things.

in this case, the coach likely gave Grant a chance to show he deserves a higher workload. (a common outcome-give the vet a chance)

Grant did okay. but wasnt spectacular (in my opinion)

As for Starks, its tough to judge a RB who gets only 5 carries. many RB's take at least 7-10 carries to get in a groove and Starks simply wasnt on the field enough.

I didnt see the whole game, but I saw a couple of his runs, and there was absolutely nothing there. The defense got penetration into the backfield and Starks was lucky to get back to the line of Scrimmage.

That being said, I wouldnt worry about this. This is not an indicator of Starks talent level.

Grant may hang onto the job a couple more weeks with roughly a 60-40 split with Starks, (barring injury of course) and as Starks Develops his skills, that ratio will gradually shift.

  12. I have used this strategy from time to time. Mostly when I have a week or two in a row with bye week hell.

it can be done. but I wouldnt recommend doing it for an extended period of time. Giving up 6-10 points a week is not something you want to do week in and week out.

your lineup would have to be so deep that you'd rather go without a kicker and give up this 6-10 points than put a skill player on the waiver wire.

There are cases where I have done this, but I wouldnt recommend it on an ongoing basis.

  13. He should be owned in all PPR formats. People are idiots for dropping him.

I think that's a little harsh. initially they said he would be out a minimum of 6-8 weeks and quite likely the rest of the year if surgery was required. Not to mention that it takes a week or two to get back into shape when you have been out that long.

Prime WW pickups are usually in the first 3-4 weeks of the season. I think a person has to trust that the initial diagnosis was correct (usually it is). Given how gross the injury looked in the pics I saw, I figured there was no way he would be back anytime soon.

As such, I dropped him. That does not make me or any of the others out there an idiot. I'm sure if we had roster space and could afford to keep a dead roster spot for a while, we may have kept him. But that is not the case in most leagues, and I feel your judgement is harsh.

  14. Seems like every year I get into leagues with people who won't trade unless the deal is so lopsided in their favor as to be vetoable.

    Today I offered this trade:

I give Arian Foster, Antonio Gates, and Mike Sims-Walker.

I get Jahvid Best, Tony Gonzalez, and Santana Moss.

He already has Ben Tate, along with Adrian Peterson, LeGarrette Blount, Jahvid Best and Reggie Bush, so he can afford to wait on Foster. I have McFadden, but then it's Marshawn Lynch and Brandon Jacobs (who I dropped for Roy Helu today) behind Foster--so I kinda needed RB help now. I still have Keller at TE, so I don't really need Gates, esp. if I got Gonzo in return, and while Moss would give me solid WR depth so I wouldn't always have to start Stevie Johnson AND David Nelson behind Larry Fitzgerald, he doesn't add a lot to my team, and I din't think that he was too much to ask in return. Yahoo's Trade Evaluator showed a +149 in projected points for his team over the course of the season, and a -110 points for mine.

I thought it was axually a pretty sweet deal for him, and I almost withdrew it a couple of times during the day. Turns out I din't need to. He rejected the trade and countered with:

I give Cam Newton and David Nelson.

I get Santana Moss and Reggie Bush.

    I axually burst out laughing.

So, what are some of the Trade Nazis you've dealt with this season so far?

I see where you are coming from.

as a person who is known to sometimes reject trades that look good on the surface I am going to speak to another angle (or potential angle) for this deal.

Foster and gates are both hurt. He does have a RB (Tate & Blount) that can limit the downside of Fosters injury but Gates will hinder him until he is back in the lineup. I prefer Sims walker to Moss, but not all people feel that way.

So this being said, is he in a position where a loss or two right now would hurt him? If he is, then you know why he said no to the deal.

The other possibility is that he thinks you are a competitor to him and if he thinks the deal helps you more than it helps him, he may prefer to leave things be.

These lines of thought may have affected his decision, and even though your offer was fair, it is possible that one of the above reasons could have made this into a deal breaker for him.

anyhow, Just food for your thought. I feel there is nothing wrong with your offer, but I'm just saying there may have been other reasons for his declining the deal.

  15. No one else was suspended for violations during the lockout -- even repeat offenders like Britt & Talib -- why should Ced? I'm not fully buying this...

This is probably why he is filing an appeal.

I had figured this would have beed addressed prior to this time. I dont care if he deserves the suspension or not. The NFL should have announced their intention to discipline regarding this prior to the start of the regular season. Why they have decided to do this after week 2 is a mystery to me. and now it looks like they are ignoring the actions of some while punishing others.

    This is poor.

  16. Probably the only thing you can do is hold grant and wait.....and wait.....and wait... :music_guitarred:

I agree. he has no value currently, and your options are to dump him for nothing or wait until something happens to shoot his value back up. No guarantee that the second option happens.

I scouted him about a 2 years ago and found him to be lacking. he would put up yards when the line opened up holes for him. (this game they were opening up holes big enough to drive a truck through) but when the line didnt open up a hole, he was unable to get extra yards or break tackles. I was mostly unimpressed at that time.

Now a prospect (starks)came in who looked good and seems to be able to break a tackle or two and I jumped on the wagon.... mostly due to the fact I was unimpressed with what I saw in Grant before. I got him for a dollar in my auction league, and havnt regretted the purchase.

  17. If it really was Del Rio's call to send Garrard packing, he should be fired right now. Why wait till the season is over.

I suggested canning him the day he released Garrard. Terrible move. At the very least, he could have started Garrard until Gabbert was ready. now they are stuck with a guy who has amost no experience and a rookie who is probably a year away from being ready. now they are in a position where they potentially ruin the rookie by putting him in the spotlight before he is ready.

  18. Sitting at 0-2 with what I considered a competitive team. Week 1, lost 88 to 86. Week 2, lost 101 to 100. I hate to be "that guy", but being in the top 5 points points for and the bottom 5 of league standings is frustrating.

Where should I look to make significant changes (who to trade away/target for)?

    OR

Just sit tight and try to weather this storm?

    14 Team Non-PPR Money league

    QB: Sam Bradford, Ryan Fitzpatrick

RB: Ray Rice, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Mark Ingram, Michael Bush

WR: Roddy White, Steve Johnson, Mike Thomas, Davone Bess

    TE: Antonio Gates

    K: Matt Bryant

    D/ST: Lions

*I dont trust BJGE as my RB2, but he holds little value in my league.

*Worried about Gates, but can't trade him this low.

*Roddy is probably my most movable/desirable piece (not looking to trade Rice)

    League details:

    -14 teams, H2H, non-PPR

    -Start: 1QB / 2RB / 2WR / 1TE / 1K / 1DST

    -1 point for 25 pass/10 rec/10 rush yds

    -4 points for pass td

    -6 points for rush/rec td

Guys, I would love any advice here and will absolutley respond if you leave me a link in your reply. THANK YOU

I wouldnt worry about Gates, he will be fine.

I think your WR are ok. could use some work on your backups, but your starters are fine.

the only position I'd look to upgrade is that second RB starting slot if you could manage it.

with the injuries that have happened, I'd be looking at the backup in Cleveland on the waiver wire. if he's still there, he is the guy you want. That O-Line is awesome and whoever runs behind it will put up good numbers.

    good luck

  19. Owner of Brady just lost Jamaal Charles. His backup is Addai or Steven Jackson (currently out). Am I giving up too much? My other back is Rice and I have Blount, Tolbert, Starks I could throw in as my #2.

I think you may be giving up a little much, but it may be worth the risk. Brady looks Crazy good this year.

You have depth at RB with Blount & Starks.

however, have you considered giving up Blount or Starks instead of McCoy?

  20. Yeah our league has WR/TE spots. I was thinking Gronkowski or Hernandez over Branch since they will be used in the red zone and have a better chance at a TD.

well I think branch will be close to a 1000 yard WR. if he's on waivers you should grab him. dont you have another TE or scrub player you can drop to grab Hernandez as well?
