So in all of my research that I did when I got my letter from the IRS and was scrambling to try to figure out how to rectify the issue (they wanted to charge me the taxes for the unreported "income" as well as interest and penalties), everything I saw said that the $600 threshold was not in place in 2021, and I believe the idea was that it began in tax year 2023. In my case, the amount wasn't really the issue. I didn't sell a damn thing. I was basically transferring my own money from 1 account (my bank) to another account (draftkings) and vice versa. PayPal was the middle man and they don't care about money you send out, only money that comes in. Money that comes in gets classified as either "friends and family" or "business". So the bigger issue is that transfers of your own money coming back to you from DraftKings were being viewed as income. I made money gambling that year but that would have been reported under gambling income with documentation from DK, not under small business income. So it was a bit of a headache for me but my original point in bringing up the story was that my dealings with the IRS were actually pretty smooth and everything was resolved fairly quickly.

Keegan Bradley named 2025 Ryder Cup Captain
WhiteWonder replied to bostonlager's topic in The Geek Club
They would never have him captain but they were okay letting brooks be a captains pick and play. Ryder cup is a USA thing not a pga/liv issue. I get it. Just saying if LIV never happened I think Mickelson was penciled in as captain for this one. The NY/NJ fans always loved him. -
The info is fresh in my mind I was dealing with all this about 10 months ago. I can’t imagine $600 as the limit. I could sell a set of golf clubs on eBay and have to file taxes as a small business owner / independent contractor. It’s insane. well, technically you can just list your profit and then zero it out with a deduction and include an explanation that you are not running a business, which is what they had me do with my gambling app transfers I wasn’t even pissed at PayPal for generating a 1099. I don’t expect them to be like oh, we see he also sent transactions out so these offset. I was more upset that they didn’t mail me a 1099 because I had no reason to anticipate one. Or at least email me saying it’s ready online.

as much as I can blame biden for many things, the $600 threshold was not an issue back then. It was something like $20,000 or 200 transactions. My incoming transfers from DraftKings totaled about $46,000, there were outgoing transfers to DK for like $38,000 that I used to offset and show that no 1099 should have been generated and it was not business income. DK also had no tax form for me for that year. a lot of the transfers were simply to take advantage of deposit bonuses. $500 in, $500 out next day or even same day, etc. PayPal told me that a number of companies already had agreements in place to have their transactions excluded from counting as business transactions, including FanDuel but in 2021, DK was not one of those companies. I believe they now are.

Not shocked White would be picked. Not a better player than Jaylen Brown (who I do think is better than Tatum)

odd Last August I got a bill proposal from the IRS for unreported 1099 income from 2021. Turned out to be a 1099 generated by paypal. Was never sent to me and I had no reason to expect one. Turned out that because my DraftKings account had always been linked to my paypal account (back when they were just DFS it was hard to do a direct transfer from a bank and PP was the easiest workaround)... All the transfers I did back and forth that year triggered a 1099 as PP considered the incoming transfers to be "income from the sale of goods and services" without taking into account the outgoing transfers. It was a headache. I made a spreadsheet for them showing all the outgoing and incoming and how the net was well under the 20k threshold they used to have for 1099 generation. They still made me claim the income as a business and then just told me to take the same amount as a deduction to offset it, but I needed to go through all that so they could dot their i's and cross their t's I guess. But the agent I worked with was helpful, 90% of communication was done via their messaging platform, and everything was sorted out within 2 weeks.

Trump talk only- no Eagles talk allowed (Steelers talk is OK though)
WhiteWonder replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
sorry. I don't really want to belabor this but I am not following your line of thinking. Where did I "pretend" this? Aside from my very first post, which I said was tongue in cheek (again, i'm not here to play sides but it is a little telling that all the immediate reactions to my post came from one side of the aisle), I was discussing CPI, not inflation. did you mean to say I was pretending to know that "CPI falling" means a decrease in the rate of inflation versus actual deflation? You would still be incorrect in your commentary but it would at least make some sort of sense as to where you think I was lying or backpedaling. However, I never spoke to the idea of CPI falling. I was stating a fact about it going negative for the first time in quite some time. You and I then went on to discuss the merits of this and it's potential impacts. I'm ignoring gutter because he is a petulant child and you are at least capable, usually, of just discussing. I am still waiting to be told which part was the lie though. All you have to do is highlight it in one of my posts that you have quoted. -

how so? I am interested in which part of that you feel is a lie and what you feel is backpedaling. -

good lord, you actually provided a CPI index -

not really. No one said inflation went negative any competent person knows that inflation has been cooling (even if it's not as much as dems want you to believe) based on the bandaid fed rate increases. You are also wrong that inflation "has fallen much after 2020". apparently you forgot that inflation rose significantly from the end of 2020 to around mid 2022 (coinciding with those bandaid rate increases). did you really minor in finance? -

which misinformation and which corrections... are you suggesting CPI did not go negative for the first time since 2020? (yes i was being a little tongue in cheek with the inflation part of it, i thought that was obvious. I apologize that any comment that might look bad on the current admin ruffles your little feathers) -

raising rates 11 times since 2022 is not a good thing. It's a bandaid fix for inflation (which has not worked as well as desired). the hope is usually that the white house and congress does their part (something I don't think this administration has done very well)... maybe broker good deals with other countries, etc. -

It's also interesting that my comment had nothing to do with one side or the other, yet the usual strong libs / biden supporters were the ones immediately jumping the comment -

CPI going negative does not automatically result in deflation and deflation is not automatically bad or result in a very bad recession. I would argue right now it can be seen as a good thing. It likely cements rate cuts in September and could even put them on the table sooner. -

first of all, it has not been "going down pretty steadily", it's actually been rather flat over the past 12 months... but June was the first time CPI has been negative since May of 2020 -

I thought it was an odd selection but as far as his personality, he's no more boring than Zach Johnson. It is weird to me that he was fighting to be on, and probably should have been on the last Ryder team (if not for JT being buddy buddy with ZJ) and now he is a captain 2 years later? And I guess Tigger turned it down. I think this was 100% Mickelson's turn to be captain at Bethpage, if not for everything that went down. They will take a player as a captains pick but no way they would ever use a captain who "defected". -

sounds like an awesome trip you have planned. My mom, aunt and brother went last year but it was a full on tour trip. I declined because they did spend time in St Andrews but I felt like when I do decide to go, I want the option to stay a bit longer in that area and try to get a tee time (I think when I looked it up it's sort of a be there early, get lucky etc). I used to collect golf balls as a kid. too clunky so at some point I switched to the chips. I think Fumble sent me one from Southern Hills PGA Championship 2022 and I sent him back a Shinnecock US Open from 2018 -

always a lot of teams out there giving reports about which QB is ahead or if they are tied . it's all beat writer and talking head speculation at this point.

Carr was on a new team last year. Really depends on if you think a second season of familiarity with his weapons will help. I think a full season of Juwan Johnson will help but he’s already dealing with an injury. Even so, I like Carr as a solid QB3 Love getting Minshew as depth in a super flex. Levis would be interesting with Henry gone and Ridley in town.

Keeping Jacobs leaves you in the same scenario except two of your bench players can cost $2. Not a big difference. plus, if you’re not keeping Goff at $4 I’d be looking for a $2 QB with a $1 backup QB.
