Another shady sentence commutation for a rich guy

So, nothing. Eventually you'll graduate to an amorphous "orange mad bad" comment. Goodnight, I'll come in tomorrow morning and respond to your next nothing post.

Baseless? But those Trump felonies were legit, amirite? Smart? Biden started the precedent of every future POTUS throwing out pre-emptive pardons to every family member and friend in their sphere. Whee! Personally, I don't think presidents should have pardons. Or governors. I don't understand why they even exist. We have a legal system with a whole process and everything.

Watching that trailer, I don't think I've ever seen it. Looks great though, including the cast; definitely on my list to watch.

2025 EdEx Hero World Challenge Rosters and Scoring

Fun first round -- every time I looked, the leaderboard changed. But you could tell our tourney was close. I felt good about picking that Sam Gamgee wannabee Bobby Mac, so far he is the suck. I doubt my two other guys can hold off the groups of three who are doing well.

Glad I'm getting this suckiness out of my system before the real season starts.
  9. Interesting. We may have driven to SD that spring. Approaching the mountains on I-8 as we went into Cali, we saw a sign for snow ahead. Pfft, it was like 55-60 degrees! But it started drizzling, we started ascending, and dang if we didn't hit freezing and get flurries. We stopped at the casino/gas station at the top, used the potty, played briefly in the snow (a rare concept for our kids), and continued on. We later learned on our trip from fellow travelers that shortly after we left, they shut down the freeway for hours due to snow. That was not the warmest vacation we ever had on the beach in SD.
  10. We did however just have our wettest fall on record: https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/arizona-weather/2025/12/03/phoenix-weather-fall-rain-tropical-storms-break-record/87574747007/?utm_source=azcentral-dailybriefing-strada&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=dailybriefing-greeting&utm_term=newsletter-greeting&utm_content=pphx-phoenix-nletter02
  11. Yeah, but I live near the 58 in that map. Our forecast in Phoenix is mid-60s until Sunday when it warms up a little. Bummer, as we're having an indoor/outdoor party on Saturday night. But we've got heaters to brave the cold. That's actually one of the great things about Phoenix - I can drive about 3 hours in 3 different directions and visit winter.

$140,000 is the new poverty line. Here's the math

I feel like we discussed this recently. Our system is far from perfect, but the idea that universal healthcare is the panacea for us is naive. People like to use Norway as an example -- Norway is tiny in both population and size -- for size, it is basically a one-dimensional country, because virtually everyone lives near the coast. Plop a medical center every 50 miles along the coast and, walla, medical care for everyone. They also have a general Scandinavian mindset like "Hygge", which translates roughly to "good enough." It's a very different mindset than the US. This is not to mention innovation. I don't think Norway is blazing trails in advanced medical innovation like the US does. Here is a list of countries by population: https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/population-by-country/ Here is by area: https://www.worldometers.info/geography/largest-countries-in-the-world/ Which of the countries with large areas and populations would you trade healthcare systems with. India? China? Russia? Brazil? Japan is interesting. Small in area but 1/3 our population. They have national healthcare with a 30% copay. It's mandatory, people pay into it, and if you don't have it, fock you. If you are an illegal alien without it, fock you. Heck, if you are a visitor like you or me and don't have proof of insurance, fock you. I'd consider that kind of system -- take employers out of the coverage which is a big problem, everyone pays, and if you don't pay, see ya. (There are reduced rates for low-income and elderly).

Because govt paid healthcare and daycare would be FREE#@! It grows on the entitlement tree$#@! Those are bankrupting our country, The costs of these programs dwarf all other costs. You know this, right? SS cost $1.5T in 2024, 22% of our spending. Medicare was "only" about $1T in 2024. I think we need both programs, especially SS which we've paid into. But the unwillingness of anyone to address the obvious need of SS (increase the age of payouts) will lead to major problems.
