Trump talk only- no Eagles talk allowed (Steelers talk is OK though)
jerryskids replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
Just thought I'd point out that you bolded the wrong part here earlier: I left your bolded, and used red to point out the relevant part. The part Vance biotch-slapped the ABC reporter with. Harris knows it, the DNC knows it, that's why they're flanking hard on being tough on illegal immigration. But, they're leaving pseuds like you, the Gammas and Deltas of their Brave New World, to fight the ground war with the straw man of "they haven't taken over the entire city ARGGGHHHH!" Sad for you, boyo. -
I figured out the defining characteristic that makes someone a lifelong liberal
jerryskids replied to Frozenbeernuts's topic in The Geek Club
Perhaps distilling it further, it is a basic belief that all humans are fundamentally good, where "good" is defined as the motivations of the liberal. And as such, they believe that being nice to those people is the same as helping them. -

Along these lines, I recently said here that a defining characteristic of liberals is a belief that everyone in the world is driven by their same motivations. For example, they believe that Palestinians, given the opportunity (again) for autonomy, will kick out Hamas, develop a thriving democratic society, and live peacefully next to Israel in a two-state solution. If only Israel would leave them alone, those mean oppressors! -
I understand your position; my post (the second part) was in response to Saints and the simplistic belief that Trump is just going to become a dictator. I've explained numerous times how inane that is, so I won't rehash it. Kamala may very well be intelligent. After all, she graduated law school and passed the bar. But she is a terrible communicator, inspires no confidence, and if we are to believe her current positions, has abandoned everything she has historically claimed to care about. Hate Trump all you want, but he tells you what he thinks.

This song came on at our gym earlier this week. I thought two things: (1) I love this song, and (2) I'm having a total mental block on the name. Had to come home and find it on Spotify. Funny that @MikeMattchose it as the first song.

The Harris honeymoon is ending, and people are reminded that she was a terrible candidate before the coup that put her in the nomination. She is trying to be Solomon splitting the baby with her flip flopping positions on fracking, the border, etc., and it ends up she is pleasing no one. HTH I've often pimped the Freakonomics podcast here, and will again. They just posted a two-part series on the president, dictatorship, and how to predict the election. https://freakonomics.com/podcast/has-the-u-s-presidency-become-a-dictatorship-update/ https://freakonomics.com/podcast/how-to-predict-the-presidency/ The host, Stephen Dubner, is definitely NOT a fan of Trump. His pods rarely get into politics tho, and even these were more academic than partisan. The first was a replay/update of one they did in 2016 before Trump was elected. One of the main guests is a legal historian and U of Chicago professor, who talked about how the office of POTUS has amassed a lot more power than the Founders envisioned. He was actually quite critical of Obama and his selective law enforcement or lack thereof. The second one was primarily about betting markets for the election (also very interesting), but Dubner talked to the same professor about the risk of Trump becoming somethin of a dictator. The professor's opinion was... not really a risk. His reasoning is that to be a dictator, you need to be disciplined and organized, which isn't Trump.

I like Maker's; it has a high wheat content that makes it smooth. Enjoy.

Sorry boyo, he looks fine there, as he does doing any of his many hour plus unscripted interviews. Meanwhile, Kamala needs a teleprompter to order at McDonalds. Love this for you.

Obama sounds the alarm, says blacks are not excited about Kamala
jerryskids replied to League Champion's topic in The Geek Club
Blacks aren't a huge voting block in AZ, and Tucson is already the bluest city in AZ (maybe along with Flagstaff), so him coming here is a bit of an enigma. Maybe they are trying to "get out the vote" in their strongholds? -
Trump talk only- no Eagles talk allowed (Steelers talk is OK though)
jerryskids replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
My point is merely that, for someone like @The Real timschochetwho might put value in Nate Silver, the fact that he is advising Polymarket lends credibility to them. -

I haven't been following all of the poll stuff, mostly because I think there is no value in any particular value. Instead, there is value in group movement of polls. Anyway, and I apologize if this was discussed, but Nate Silver recently joined the advisory board of Polymarket. I learned this from a pod about the election of Freakonomics, which is if anything anti-Trump, that's not the point. The point is that Polymarket may have more predictive value than people think. https://www.axios.com/2024/07/16/nate-silver-polymarket -

In other words, blacks are still super excited for Kamala, just not super DUPER excited! And the brothers are just slightly less super excited! Winning! -
Helene Disaster Response: The Regime leaving Red States to die?
jerryskids replied to Tree of Knowledge's topic in The Geek Club
I like you Tim, except when you get into this yip yip dog mode. Regarding your question to me above, I'm not really following it, so my answer is whatever gets you to stop talking about it so we can get back to the Harris/Biden regime's incompetence. -
I don't think that means what you think it means.

I'd like to be a fly on the wall when he found out that Kamala did an interview with a podcaster who discusses topics like best blow job techniques. -
Trump vs Harris Policy Thread - $10,000 PER KID FOR HOMESCHOOL $7,000 COST OF LIVING REDUCTION
jerryskids replied to JuneJuly's topic in The Geek Club
Fair enough. I've stated before that Trump is driven by narcissism, and that includes adulation from folks for helping them. The whole "Trump just wants to make himself and his fat cat buddies rich" is silly IMO. Trump is worth plenty of money; he's not going through all of the trials and tribulations of a presidential race to get secret service people to stay at his resorts. But, that's the message the Left MSM has positioned, and a lot of people buy it. -

I'm not a tax expert, but I believe you are correct that a deduction would only help those who itemize, which would disproportionately help richer folks who itemize and buy a car. It would need to be a tax credit to apply to everyone. I think what Trump is philosophically trying to do with things like this and the "no tax on tips" policy is to find things which actually help poorer people. Kamala's "we're going to tax the rich, because fair words!" has never worked and won't again. The rich will avoid it, and the middle class will end up paying for the boondoggles Kamala enacts. That being said, without knowing more, and presuming it is a credit or something that actually works, my brain always turns to unintended consequences. In this case, I could see interest rates on car loans going up, which would put more month to month pressure on people to make payments, even if they get it back when they file taxes. -
HIPAA would prevent knowing WHO got the medical care, not the general statistics.

Again I don't know for sure, but I would think that for sure Rx are reported/tracked, and most likely most surgeries as well. Rx are by definition approved by the government, so they have a vested interest in tracking it. Certainly, anything covered by insurance is reported to insurance companies. But more broadly, I would think that the medical community has a mechanism to track such data.

Time to buy those things you never needed! If anyone sees good deals, post them here. I just bought a Greenworks 80V hedge trimmer. I've got their lawn mower, blower, and chain saw, and they are all great. I have a ton of bougainvillea, oleander, and other random shrubs, and my Ryobi 20V trimmer just isn't cutting it (literally). I put it in my cart at $240 yesterday, just bought it today for $170. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CLSF59XP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Think of it as me being too lazy. That's usually a good model. I was going to post something like, "ya know, instead of OldMaid, I think it maybe was that chick who ran off with GettnHuge." Not sure what it says about me that I instantly remembered the dood's name, but not hers.

I'm not familiar with NPPES (just googled it), nor do I know how accurate the data on that site are. That being said, I believe that you are correct in your belief that hospitals do not need to report the data, although another search didn't give me an obvious clear answer. If true, that should be scary to anyone IMO.

Again, I don't disagree. I will say that the Greenworks trimmer I initially mentioned was $240 going back to April, other than this window. So it definitely was a deal. Somebody like Greenworks might sell stuff as a loss leader occasionally to get you hooked on their battery/tool system (like I am with Ryobi 20V for tools that don't need 80V). Even if something is available elsewhere for the same price, I'll almost always buy it from Amazon because (1) free and fast shipping, and (2) easy returns. Costco would be an exception, plus I'd have it already instead of waiting until tonight (but it would be black, not the cool blue). But I had to go to Costco and walk past (and notice) the display to know about the deal. We buy our computers at Costco when it's time to upgrade, when on sale (usually Black Friday), because we can go in and see them first. On your last point, I totally agree on the bolded. As an electrical engineer, I'm very aware that no matter how much you try qualify a product before release, it doesn't really get tested until it goes to market and the public puts it through the ringer.
