Trump talk only- no Eagles talk allowed (Steelers talk is OK though)

I'm really surprised that Mike perma-banned the Rusty and Gutter handles. Before they got stage 4 TDS, they were two of the better posters on this bored for a long time.

FEMA aid workers skipped houses with Trump signs

You may not like Ben Shapiro's politics, but he is a devout religious person with a high level of integrity. While they certainly report things with a conservative spin when possible, I highly doubt he would put his name behind a news agency that intentionally lied, certainly about something like this. No it doesn't. "FEMA aid workers skipped houses with Trump signs."

Discussion of Concerns for Trump Presidency

No, but I'll expand on that later. I would think you'd need to be convicted, not just arrested. Also, one possible unintended consequence of this is that some jurisdictions will just flat out not arrest, and certainly not convict, illegal aliens. I think we already see this to some extent. It would get worse. Environment is a good one, I'll add that to the list.

Discussion of Concerns for Trump Presidency

Sorry, I missed his the first time thru. Will add to the list. Not sure about this but I'll add it. Great one! I was going to add this later; great minds think alike.

Discussion of Concerns for Trump Presidency

Here is what I've put in the summary post on the first page so far: I am surprised the last one hasn't been mentioned yet, I added that. Feel free to discuss any on these, or introduce a new, rational concern.

Sorry Strike, but I don't find this to be in the spirit of my post.

Discussion of Concerns for Trump Presidency

Most of you folks are not following the spirit of my intention in this thread. @thegeneral provided a few good examples: - Mass deportation - Elon's streamlining of government (I have concerns here as well) and there were one or two others. I put the tag on the thread because I'm not looking for the typical partisan stuff like or any other number of posts from folks in this thread that, frankly, disappointed me. I would like to use this victory as an opportunity to get to a bipartisan vision forward for this county.

Discussion of Concerns for Trump Presidency

Reasonable concerns: - Tariffs -- If implemented as Trump has stated, would probably cause a mass disruption in our supply chain and prices. - Mass deportation -- Also a mass disruption, economic issues with losing workers, civil rights concerns. - Elon streamlining government -- Could introduce a huge number of (former) government employees into the workforce, many of which may not have (government) skills which easily translate to the civilian workplace. - RFK's influence on health agencies -- Same as above. - End of gender affirming care -- I'm not really sure how this would manifest, for adults anyway. I could see laws against medically transing kids, which I (and most rational people) would view as a good thing, but some like @squistionmight view that as a negative. - End of naturalized citizenship for Dreamers -- Highly unlikely as it is specifically enumerated in the Constitution. I might remove this one. - Environment and climate change efforts -- Trump has vowed to "drill baby drill" which, along with a general disinterest in pursuing green initiatives, makes it likely that we'll invest less in this area. - Abortion -- Long shot that Congress would propose a ban, Trump would sign it, and SCOTUS would approve it - SCOTUS -- Trump could potentially set 2 or 3 more conservative justices on the bench, securing a conservative court for decades to come. - Removal of licenses from media companies -- I don't know much about this, but OK - Some Trump appointees generate reasonable concerns. Gaetz for AG in particular is concerning given, if nothing else, his resignation prior to the release of the investigation into his potential inappropriate conduct with a 17 yr old. RFKJ, while having valid criticisms of the status quo, may go too far as head of HHS. Tom Homan is, to put it lightly, a no-nonsense border czar who has no qualms about separating families, or shipping out entire families, some of whom may be Dreamers. There are others: if anyone wants to specifically call them out, reply as such.

    *** 2024 Summer Olympics ***

Congrats to her on getting the funding to continue pursuing this! As for the makeup thing, she's cute enough, but she's behind the big fake check in most of them (looks good in the one with the side pic tho). I presume I commented on her looks during the olympics?

So no talks about voter fraud?

Also @TimHauck, much was made about the huge improvement from the Repubs in their registration and "get out the vote" efforts. So I would expect more votes on the Repub side, anyway. To me, the interesting thing in the end will be the vote differences per state, or maybe even districts within states. I wouldn't expect much of a vote dump in, say, California which the Dems will definitely win. But if there are statistically significant reduction this time around only in swing states, and/or within specific districts in those states... then I'm interested.

So no talks about voter fraud?

Wut? You are all over the place here Hoax? Your estimate? I agree with waiting until all the votes come in before issuing indictments but... what does that have to do with the cell phone data?

Of course I like you! Also, my wife is leaving tomorrow for 5 days to see her mother. If you want to fly to Phoenix and make me dinners while she's gone, I'll like you even more!

    House Race...

The basic problem is a combination of (1) we accept absentee/mail-in ballots day-of drop-off, and (2) we do hand signature verification.

    House Race...

Don't get me started... We just elected a new Recorder -- Justin Heap, local boy and former star ASU (and Ravens) TE. He seems serious, and I hope he fixes this clown show.

I believe Hunter Biden will leave the country... to somewhere without extradition to the US.

Don't worry, you are our special Cali hoe. It was an opossum!
  20. This is a wonderful read from the (female) founder of Quillette, a zine from Australia. @The Real timschochet, you might find this interesting because at the end she ties it to a very Ayn Rand-like, think "prime movers". https://quillette.com/2024/11/06/the-revenge-of-the-silent-male-voter-trump-vance-musk/
  21. Thanks, great post yourself! I love your description of the identity politics.

You sound like my GenZ daughter who gets all her news from Tik Tok. Is that you, honey?
  23. Ducey was the founder of Cold Stone Creamery, so he has business experience as well. He's conservative, but seemed able to reach across the aisle and get stuff done. He's only out because he reached his term limit. The only "problem" is that he is not a rah-rah guy, he's pretty reserved.
  24. Don't get me wrong, I like Vance. But I'm not all in on him yet. I want to see how his 4 years go. Four years of learning on the job is good, if he's good at it and does stuff. Kamala had four years on the job, and did nothing. I don't want a geriatric candidate, more like someone in their 50s ideally. In private industry, a 40-something rarely runs a major corporation unless (1) he founded it, or (2) he was a superstar who skyrocketed his way up there. Also I tend to prefer governors because they have actually run a major government entity. That would include Desantis, Haley, and (I'd love him to get involved) Doug Ducey, our former governor in AZ. I wasn't a fan of Obama with his experience of one senate term of mostly "present" votes, and community organizing. Although in fairness, the country ran fine under him.
