sirensong 111 Posted October 24, 2005 this loss lies squarely upon the offense. for the 3rd game in a row, the defense shut down the best offense in football. philly was #1 total at the time, NYG was #1 scoring, and seattle was #1 overall before yesterday. this never should have been close. the single biggest problem was the lack of a vertical passing game. how many downfield shots did we take? 2? maybe 3? the ill-fated flea-flicker should have come in the 3rd period, not in the 4th. with the success we were having on the ground, the 2nd half should have been heavy with play-action. we moved the ball fine. we did exactly what we wanted between the 20s. we had many long drives that chewed up a lot of clock, but TOP doesn't show on the scoreboard. barber put the ball on the ground. bledsoe gave the ball away. witten didn't reverse to the back of the endzone on the bootleg, which would have resulted in an easy score. cortez missed on a bad snap and a partial block. even on the very last posession, bledsoe made the right read, he simply missed on the throw. but with better playcalling and better execution throughout the game, this never would have been an issue. the only positive that might come out of this game is anger. the entire team should be angry, from jerry jones down to the marketing interns. we beat up on a top team all day, just to give the damn game away at the end. we're not the scruffy underdogs any more--the team needs to expect to win, against anyone. therefore, losing shouldn't bring disappointment, it should breed anger. anger breeds aggression, and aggression wins ballgames.
