Ray Lewis set for MRI

CHICAGO // Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis aggravated a thigh injury in the fourth quarter of the team's 10-6 loss to the Chicago Bears yesterday and did not return to the game.

Lewis will have a magnetic resonance imaging test today to determine the extent of the damage.

"He was iffy during the week," Ravens coach Brian Billick said. "He felt good during [the game]. I don't know the extent of it until I visit with the trainers and the doctors."

Lewis hurt the thigh a week ago against the Cleveland Browns, although he didn't miss any time during that game. He was held out of practice last week, and there was speculation late Saturday night that he wouldn't play against the Bears.

But Lewis made it through without much laboring before hurting himself while helping to force Bears running back Thomas Jones out of bounds with a little more than eight minutes left in the game.

Lewis was taken immediately to the locker room.

He was dressed and on the team bus before media were allowed into the locker room.

Lewis is the Ravens' second major defensive loss in as many weeks, following safety Ed Reed, who missed yesterday's game with a high ankle sprain.

Reed's status is questionable at best for the Pittsburgh Steelers game next Monday night.

Bart Scott replaced Lewis in the lineup on the Bears' final two possessions. Scott likely would start in place of Lewis if he is unable to play against the Steelers.

Lewis has missed one game in the past three years.

Scott has never started a game in his four seasons with the Ravens.

Roughness is repeated

The Ravens were penalized 11 times for 100 yards, none more pointless than a roughing-the-passer call on defensive end/linebacker Terrell Suggs that extended a Bears drive in the third quarter. Suggs' penalty came after the Ravens had forced a fourth down.

The Bears' Robbie Gould eventually hit a 23-yard field goal to put his team up 10-6.

"I came through free, my momentum was going and [the referee] said I can't push him," Suggs said. "So I guess I can't push him. It happens. It's a very unfortunate call and unfortunate for my team, but we've still got to line up. They're not going to change that call."

The penalty was reminiscent of the undisciplined play that led to 21 penalties on the last road trip to Detroit. This time, the Ravens were also hit with a roughing-the-passer call on Adalius Thomas and an unnecessary-roughness infraction on Patrick Johnson on a punt.

P. Johnson gets involved

Patrick Johnson saw his first extensive action with the Ravens' offense this season, serving as the team's No. 3 receiver.

Randy Hymes started in place of an injured Mark Clayton, and Johnson leap-frogged Clarence Moore in the lineup.

No Ed Reed, No RayRay...Fast Willie will torch these cats!!

I was just thinking the same thing. If Lewis is out, I'd think their run defense will take a decent hit. Pitt will likely pound the ball as usual so FWP will see around 20 touches. I've got to decide between him and Ronnie Brown (SA on bye this week). RB faces a pitiful NO defense so it's going to be a tough call come Sunday.

So much sh!t talkin' by the players of this organization before the year started. :wall:

I honestly hope they lose every focking game for the rest of the season, Jamal Lewis gets them all high before Ray-Ray comes around and stabs all of those mutha fockers.

I'm so glad this team is flopping around like a fish on a boat. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch.

The defense took a significant hit even before the season started.

I'll bet any amount of money Ray-Ray's crying out "Eddie Hartwell, where are you, man" every night when he's sleeping.

You are all just haters. Ravens have had the raunchiest, dirtiest, most fun to watch defense for the last 6 years. This year they have one of the best defenses ever assembled, but also one of the worst offenses ever assembled.

Get the fock out of here.

It's a tip: if a team uses all of it's cap space to buy defensive players, one would assume that the offensive side of the ball would need some help.

Your franchise QB is a bust, and your ex-convict running back sucks.

It's a drastically underachieving team that talked alot of sh!t before the season started, and now can't back it up.

The best part about it; they're now buried in the standings. :(

You're absolutely right. We're haters. After all, the players in this gang of thugs are very easy to hate, and the coach is a big enough jackazz that one can hate them some more.

Go comb your mullett and watch your Ravens LOSE, LOSE, LOSE. :pointstosky:

Ray Lewis is overrated

He's well past his prime

It's simply amazing how a guy's stats drop when he's playing behind mediocre tackles, and without Ed Hartwell.

I think Ray-Ray was a tremendous player, and quite possibly one of the top 5 all-time inside backers.

But his mouth is bigger than his play.

 having kept Ray-Ray in my keeper league, it will suck if he doesn't play against the Steelers. Playing Pittsburgh is an IDP MLB gold mine!

Ray's greatness is more than his game performance. It's the way he motivates an entire defense like no other player I have ever seen. He's lost some skill but he will never lose his ability to pump the team up. He makes everyone around him better.

You're kidding, right?

Before the season started, the Ravens were going to the Super Bowl, according to all you rednecks.

Now the team's been exposed as a major fraud, we're all "haters" because we're laughing at that pathetic team?

Ray-Ray was running his big focking mouth before the season. Serves him right that the team sucks azz.

You're not haters for laughing at a pathetic team, you're a pathetic hater for continuing the charade long after it's been acknowledged by the rest of us that the team does suck.

Ray-Ray has been running his mouth since he entered the NFL.. where ya been all this time bro?

As the losses and frustration continue to mount for the Ravens, so do the injuries.

Coach Brian Billick said Monday that the team could be without linebacker Ray Lewis for its game at the Pittsburgh Steelers next Monday night.

Lewis, who was limited by a hamstring injury in practice last week, aggravated the injury in the Ravens' 10-6 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Lewis walked to locker room midway through the fourth quarter and did not return to the game.

The All-Pro linebacker will be reevaluated later in the week, but it's possible that the Ravens could be without Lewis, as well as last year's NFL Defensive Player of the Year, safety Ed Reed (high ankle sprain), in Pittsburgh.

"We'll see when we come back (to practice) on Thursday," Billick said. "But (the possibility of Reed and Lewis playing is) optimistic on both of them."

Chad Williams filled in for Reed on Sunday and made three tackles. Bart Scott would likely take over at middle linebacker if Lewis were to miss any games.

"He'll need to be ready to step up," Billick said of Scott.

In other injury news, fullback Alan Ricard aggravated his calf injury against the Bears and could be sidelined against the Steelers and beyond.

"It might be a while before he can get past that," Billick sad.

Quarterback Kyle Boller and defensive end Anthony Weaver continues to progress in their rehabilitation from turf toe injuries. Billick said Boller, who has not played since hurting his foot in a season-opening loss to the Indianapolis Colts, could be the third quarterback in Pittsburgh.

Billick also said that rookie receiver Mark Clayton, who missed Sunday's game with a sprained ankle, has a "pretty good chance" of playing against the Steelers.

"Everyone in this league is hurt," Billick said. "Everyone deals with injuries to different degrees at different times."

First, I joined this board recently but I have been viewing it for over a year...so that point is not valid at all.

Secondly, everyone knows Boller sucks and the predictions on ESPN would always say something along the lines of "This is a superbowl team if Boller improves."

Well guess what, Boller hasn't even played so he has no chance of improving. In my opinion, he will improve but will never achieve NFL QB status. The thing that the Ravens did not expect this year is a sucky Jamal Lewis (mainly because he is out of shape from jail time).

I honestly hope the Ravens lose every game and get the number 1 draft pick for Matt Leinart. Then you will see how good Baltimore truly is.

But don't hate on the best defense in the NFL just because in past seasons we have embarrassed your team's offense.

PS. Natty Boh is awesome...pretty much the official beer of Baltimore
