The Moz 69 Posted October 24, 2005 As a ND fan i am a bit worried he will bolt for the NFL after the season. Rumor has it he has a low buy out clause and many NFL teams would have him 1st on their wish list - namely the Vikings and Texans ! They would make him maybe the highest coach or one of the highest coaches in the NFL is he went. Does Weiss stay at ND and become a Football legend with other great ND coaching greats or does he go for the money ? I mean the guy is a great coach ! He takes a team that could barley get a bowl bid and makes them into a title contender ( or almost they came close to beating SC ) He turns Quinn Brady an average College QB last year into a potential 1st round pick and 2 WR's un heard of last year into pro prospects as well. little wonder why the guy has once again put ND at the top of the Recruiting classes -- everyone wants to play for Weiss becasue he makes Offense skill players into stars and increases a WR/QB draft value immensley ! I hope he stays at ND - but the money is likley going to be un real beign thrown at him

Best Corner, then 4 other 4 star prospects for DB's. He has the top DT about to commit. 4 OL(2 verbal, 2 about to), 2 QB's(one is local and both are 4 star QB's, the local guy is real good). A 5 star RB, #2 RB in the nation(behind a local RB, McCoy, who is the top in the country), then about to sign the top TE in the country as well. hell of a class! Cuse9 129 Posted October 24, 2005 I think Notre Dame is getting better, but the only team they have beat with a winning record is underachieving Michigan. Everyone else is sub .500. They need to beat Tennessee to really be back!

Boston 0 Posted October 24, 2005 Funny you should bring this up because I just had this conversation with a fellow Patriot fan. We were both in agreement that we felt his ultimate goal is to be an NFL coach. He's a pro guy and he only went to ND after getting shut out by the NFL in 03 (he didn't wait around to see what happened after 04). While ND is one of the premiere college jobs I just don't see Charlie being there longer than five years. If he wins a national title it could be shorter. At some point an offer from an NFL team is going to be too good for him to pass up moneywise as well as probably getting big time control like Saban just did. I'm sure he also has a chip on his shoulder to prove to the organizations that passed on him that they were very wrong. In the end he'll do a fantastic job at ND but I really don't believe being a college coach is his goal regardless of what he can accomplish in South Bend. The guys value is sky high and it's only going to go higher as he brings in his own recruits. I'd be very surprised if he's still with the Irish after that five year period. Where ever he goes...a national championship is soon to follow. With Weiss' system, however, it would make Claussen look even better than he is! Quinn is an average qb and Weiss has made him into a Heisman fourth place vote getter in one year!

Belichick Is God 0 Posted October 24, 2005 I found this link over at the NERD board. http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork/story/8994211 NFL News Around the League: Weis back to the NFL? \ By Adam Schefter (Oct. 22, 2005) -- At least one NFL team has found out that it won't need the luck of the Irish to lure away Charlie Weis from Notre Dame. Weis' six-year contract at Notre Dame includes a modest $1.5 million buyout, a number that caused one NFL head coach to remark this week, "That's it?" That's it. The buyout means that, despite the fact that he has one of the country's most heralded recruiting classes coming in next season, Weis has positioned himself to leave Notre Dame after this season for the NFL if he so chooses. Charlie Weis' buyout at Notre Dame is not a deal-breaker. And he might. Should Weis cap Notre Dame's impressive season with a win over Tennessee and then another win in a major bowl game, he could vault himself into the No. 1 coaching prospect on the radar of NFL owners. As it is now, he already is way up there. One team, and quite possibly more, have been quietly investigating Weis behind the scenes, and finding out what kind of head coach he would be, and they love him. NFL opportunities will be there for him. This doesn't mean he is going; it just means it is under consideration. But this is a developing situation sure to get lots of attention in the weeks to come. There certainly are going to be enough openings at the NFL level. Some NFL executives expect there to be 10 to 13 head coaching changes this offseason, a number derived from the percentages. On average, there are six and a half coaching changes per year and 13 every two years. Last season, there were only three. That would mean there could be, minimum, 10 this offseason, though there could be more. And Weis' name will be linked to some -- guaranteed.

Ignition Technition 0 Posted October 29, 2005 Notre Dame coach Weis signs new 10-year contract SOUTH BEND, Indiana (Ticker) - It took Notre Dame football coach Charlie Weis only seven games to earn a new contract. Notre Dame has signed Weis to a new, 10-year deal, the school announced Saturday. Weis originally had signed a six-year contract through the 2010 season when he was hired last December 12. This new deal takes effect next season and runs through 2015. "Since the first day I arrived at Notre Dame as head football coach, one of my primary goals was to be able to see this job through to the time my son, Charlie, would graduate from the University of Notre Dame and to stay in this position until I retire," Weis said. "By restructuring this contract, adding an additional five years, this allows me to accomplish that goal." Weis has led the Fighting Irish, who began the season unranked, to a 5-2 mark and the No. 9 ranking. Notre Dame also nearly upset top-ranked Southern California three weeks ago before coming up just short, 34-31. "In a very short period of time, Charlie has clearly and impressively demonstrated the ability to take the Notre Dame program where we all want it to go," Notre Dame athletic director Kevin White said. "We're excited that Charlie wanted to extend his commitment to Notre Dame, combined with the University's interest in furthering its relationship with him. All of us are enthusiastic about what the future holds for Notre Dame football with Charlie Weis as our head coach. We're confident that we've got the best coach in America ensconced at his alma mater for the remainder of his career." http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news?slug=no...ov=st&type=lgns
shasha 0 Posted October 29, 2005 Interesting, I really didn't think that he would be in too much of a hurry to bolt, I mean ND has almost always been the premier gig in college, it has sufferred the last few years, but there is still that mystic. Plus he has more control, probably less BS to worry about, no salary cap, no owners, a great fanbase and a lot of pull for recruiting. Sure he could bolt and go for some more money and 'NFL' estime, but would you rather inherit a total mess like Minnesota that could ruin your career or stay put for a few years and build upon the legend? And lets be perfectly honest here, college football isn't the more level playing field in sports...the NFL has this parity thing going on where good teams are basically penalized and bad teams are rewarded. That doesn't happen in college, most times a successful program will become more successful. He could be a decent NFL coach or a legendary college coach. Guest Loose Circuits Posted October 29, 2005 Little early to call Weiss a legendary college football coach... Urban Meyer has done the same thing with Florida (6-2, just beat Georgia 3rd top 15 team they played this month), and he already brings a college resume at different levels. Curious why all the hype for Weiss, but none for Meyer? What's with that?
