football_scooter 0 Posted March 13, 2006 not bad - fairly vanilla move, IMO. Needed a WR, got a WR - won't break the bank, though I'm not wild about the 5 mil he's getting the 1st year. Still - great to see them active at all.
jdswan922 0 Posted March 13, 2006 How does this impact Bryant's value? As of right now I imagine he is the #1, but what about the QB situation? I guess it wasn't great last year either. Pretty similar numbers then?

RicemanX 20 Posted March 13, 2006 basically this guy has had nearly the same stats as Brandon Lloyd the last few years. They are both young, and about the same size. THe Niners just got rid of a disgruntled one in exchange for a new one.

THe Niners just got rid of a disgruntled one in exchange for a new one. plus a first-day pick this year and a second-day pick next year and Bryant costs more than Lloyd's offer sheet price, but less than what Snyder will give Lloyd still, Bryant isn't without attitude issues of his own
adam smitty 0 Posted March 13, 2006 Losing Lloyd for Bryant puts them basically back in the same situation that they were in before. If the real Rashaun Woods doesnt step up this year, they could be in trouble. I do feel sorry for whoever has to play QB in San Fran
Jienx 0 Posted March 13, 2006 I thought he had potential in Dallas, but it never really happened, same with Cleveland, don't really see what will make this stop any different except that he'll probably be the goto guy which couldn't really be said previously. I think what it boils down too tho, is they basically let Brandon Lloyd go, and got the same thing in Bryant. Hopefully he gets his act together and can produce well for them but with Alex Smith still getting acclamated to the NFL, I just don't see much.

Except they got a 3rd rounder in 06 and a 4th rounder in 07, plus they likely saved money, while shipping out a loud mouthed guy with a bad attitude. To my knowledge, Bryant has never openly complained about his teammates and coaches, and that's apparently what Lloyd was doing. I think it's a solid move. As mentioned, not a blockbuster - but I don't anticipate any blockbusters being made. This team will improve through small, solid moves like this one. It addressed a need - WR. Check. Move on. Some here seem to be bashing the Niners for it....ripping them for this move seems somewhat pointless.
Guest Mr.T Posted March 13, 2006 Ya know, I was rather happy when the boards went down because it meant I wouldn't have to read stupid posts by Football Scooter.
SmartassBoiler 0 Posted March 13, 2006 I think Bryant should be making more than Lloyd. Bryant actually has a proven season under his belt, and that was in a bad offense as well. The prediction of 650 and 4 TDs seems a little low on the yardage side. Alex Smith will progress this year, and I bet Bryant will find a way to get to at least 800 yards. Jienx 0 Posted March 13, 2006 Wasn't meaning to rip them, just saying as far as comparing the player they lost and the player they got, it's not much of an upgrade. I do like Bryant's potential more than Lloyd's, but there's not a big jump in my opinion. The picks they recieved are certainly what makes the situation worth it tho. It is an upgrade if you don't just look at pure football skills.

zgreat 0 Posted March 14, 2006 Losing Lloyd for Bryant puts them basically back in the same situation that they were in before. If the real Rashaun Woods doesnt step up this year, they could be in trouble. I do feel sorry for whoever has to play QB in San Fran I wouldn't expect much from Rashaun Woods, he almost got cut last year. Nolan was upset with him for not practicing after getting hurt during training camp or pre-season. I thought he had potential in Dallas, but it never really happened, same with Cleveland, don't really see what will make this stop any different except that he'll probably be the goto guy which couldn't really be said previously. Hopefully he gets his act together and can produce well for them but with Alex Smith still getting acclamated to the NFL, I just don't see much. From that I've seen and read, at this stage Bryant drops too many passes to be the "go to" guy. Unless they sign another free agent WR, I'd expect Battle to be the "go to" WR. I think it's a solid move as well especially given the draft picks, but I would have preferred Givens because Bryant has had problems. There was the incident where he threw a towel at Parcells which resulted in his trade to Cleveland. It also doesn't sound as though Cleveland made much of an effort to keep their leading WR.
