Colts possibly 1st pick in draft !

Recommended Posts

HEre in INDY its being rumored the Colts are prepared to take Minnesota RB Laurence Maroney... With Edge leaving for Zona this is a strong possibility.... All the talk on the news stations and papers around here are saying that is who the Colts will select if he is available..

most of the mock drafts had him going to Indy for weeks. Long before Edge was actually released it was pretty much assumed he wouldn't be a Colt in 2006

Maroney is a real nice fit for the system

4(4). Laurence Maroney, RB, Minnesota - Could end up with the best situation of the top 4 RBs. Maroney’s hamstring kept him from working out at the combine, so we’ll have to wait to see how his numbers stack up. Indianapolis comes up frequently in speculation about his possible home. He’s firmly in the 4 spot and I wouldn’t argue with him at 2 if he lands in Indy. Maroney is not polished enough to be an everydown RB and needs to work on blocking and receiving.

Upside: Edgerrin James

Downside: Tatum Bell

One of Edge's strengths was his ability to BLOCK -

They won' t hand over the starter gig to a rookie and have Peyton take a few extra shots to the jaw.. I see them picking up a guy like Michael Bennett - regardless if they draft a RB or not with the first pick.

I don't see Maroney being there when Indy picks but if he is I can see them grabbing him. They also could move up to get him if they want him badly enough and don't think he'll drop to them.

Why not - they did it with Edge as a rookie ?

He couldnt block me or you. That guy flat out sucks. Another RB flop from Sconny.

They'll likely sign Maurice Morris. They are waiting their 3 weeks (approximately) and Indy is probably the reason Morris hasnt signed elsewhere. That wont prevent them from drafting a rookie RB in round 1. An open competition between Morris, Rhodes, and Maroney is a real possibility. That would throw a real screwball in this year's fantasy drafts.

The Colts will draft the best RB available be it Maroney, Adai, or potentially trading up to get White or Williams.

Hey for that one quarter of the season that he is healthy - he is an average blocker.

They weren't a step away from the SuperBowl when Edge was drafted

In my mock draft, I don't have Mauroney available at the Colts pick. Are the Colts high on Joseph Addai from LSU and would he be a consideration?

As for the draft. I think Joseph Addai has a good chance of becoming the best fantasy rookie at RB when 2006 is over--especially if he winds up in Indy. Not saying he's more talented than Bush, but he's a very good back that could land in an even better situation. The Colts like him and he's not expected to be an early to mid-round pick. I have watched Addai enough that I feel he has a chance to be an excellent starter.

Addai is a much better blocker and receiver than Maroney--something the Colts rely on. Maroney has shown he can do these things, but not with the same effort and consistency--not even close. I like Maroney, but I think Addai is a better all-around back.

I may be in the minority opinion about this, but if you like some of my scouting checklists on the home page. I'll be publishing the entire portfolio of 100+ checklists (2 pages each) and another 20-30 pages worth of reports and info from game film study and combine analysis within the next 2 weeks. Most of the information per player are more detailed than the samples on the home page.

Addai will be someone I'll have plenty to say about...
