Texans/Moulds agree to contract **OFFICAL**

Recommended Posts

Houston radio is reporting that it was for a 5th round pick.

That's a steal for the Texans. The Bills wanted a 4th (the first pick of the second day), but they really had not choice but to take what was being offered. If they cut Moulds, they would have gotten nothing for him in return.

seems the texans are lining up more weapons to solve their offensive woes. moulds is a legit threat opposite a young and improving andre johnson, while the super workout of reggie bush is super-gluing the prediction of his 1st pick status; yet, all this avoids the $700million question: can they protect the qb for more than 1 second in order to do anything with these weapons?

i do believe there are a handful of difference makers at the top of this draft, but i also contend a lot of them classify as something the texans have (namely the qbs and hbs). the defensive end (williams) is a serious peppers-like player who could be a dominant force soon; ferguson looks better to me than gallery coming out (i personally didnt think gallery was all that, and as a raiders fan, that hurts). getting one of these 2 guys would be great, no doubt. the problem is that bush is garnering "once-in-10years" praise, and if true, the franchise would look like fools to have passed upon a guy like this.

[interesting to think about]: there was a time not long ago the league was hell bent on basing a super bowl team on offensive talent, namely qb (favre, elway); then, the defensive teams (ravens, pats, bucs) came along and flexed their approach. they brought the notion that qb can be had from anywhere (dilfer, bjohnson, brady), but the defense behind him was more critical. the panthers of 2001 were a lot like the current texans in terms of needs (maybe even worse). they decided on peppers (avoiding the carr/harrington debacles), found a qb elsewhere, and it vastly impoved their team (super bowl runs 2 of last 3 yrs). maybe the best play for the texans is to swallow hard, decline the offensive guy, and take the defensive playmaker?

There's nothing like bringing a 33 year old former Bills possession receiver with average speed onboard to really jump start an offense. With any luck, the Texans might actually not be the worst team in the NFL this season. From a strictly fantasy football stance the past 20 years; who was the last former Buffalo offensive skill position player to move along and excel for another team? Bledsoe had his moments in 2005; but that was only a year removed from the Bills. Travis Henry, Antowain Smith, Peerless Price, Rob Johnson, Andre Reed and Thurman Thomas all fizzled. Granted, age and being an average player to begin with contributed. But going back to 1986; Greg Bell and Ronnie Harmon are the only guys I can name that had BETTER or career years after leaving Buffalo. I believe that anybody counting on Moulds to rescue Houston or rejuvenate his career will be disappointed in 2006.

If the Bills got a 5th, they made out like Bandits!
