NFL Draft Weekend Team Thread: Philadelphia Eagles

Recommended Posts

This may have been Reid's best draft since coming to the team. Bunkley will be an immediate impact player and Justice was a steal in the second round. The guys they got on day two will also play a big role on special teams and depth this season.

I am still a little disappointed they couldn't find a way to get J. Walker but over all it was a great weekend for the Eagles!

Was golfing on Saturday, and I couldn't believe when I came into the clubhouse that the Brids got Bunkley at 14 (thought he would not be there). Then Justice in the second by giving up those players! Then, another D-lineman (Gocong), a couple of project WRs (Bloom/Avant) that could help out on ST, 4-WR sets. Only thing missing was an impact LB, but that has never been a position drafted by this management team. All in all, they drafted like they usually do.... building up the lines, then filling position depth. Very, very pleased with this draft.

Great, great draft. Realistically, a year from now, this draft may have produced 4 starters. :wall:

Besides Bunkley and Justice (imagine 3 years from now when the starting offense is announced, someone says "Justice is Served", lol), Gocong is a player. The guy can hit like a ton of bricks. I think he'll be a decent SAM, but someone will really have to work with him on his pass coverage skills. The kid from Georgia is huge, and a real good run blocker.

I think the steal for them is Jason Avant. He's not a speedy guy, but the guy just makes big plays. Real good hands, runs great pass patterns, and more importantly, gets out of his breaks real clean and crisp. Being a Big Blue fan, I watched alot of him in college, and there were games that he was THE MAN.

Jeremy Bloom is gonna help out on special teams, too. Great speed and quickness. The best thing about this kid is his work ethic. The kid works extremely hard. He will make himself into a real good kick returner, no doubt in my mind.

Had the Eagles been able to trade for Walker, I may have splooged in my pants on Saturday.

One thing left to do (besides sign the picks): sign Stephen Davis. Or Antwoin Smith. Big back needed. :wall:

Variations of A (A, A-) grade being waved around.

I've got to totally agree. I'm a huge Wolverine fan and I've liked this guy for years. A couple of years ago when Braylon Edwards was making all the circus catches, he was also dropping a ton of routine chain movers. Avant, on the other hand, doesn't drop anything. They didn't use Avant enough in my opinion. He's got good size and some of the best hands I've seen come through U of M. Definitely better hands than Braylon Edwards.

I'm not sure what went wrong at the senior bowl and Combine but I think Philly just got a great possession receiver who can be a sure-handed target for McNabb for years to come. Much more trustworthy than LJ Smith in my opinion.

I think we got 3 possible starters and 2-3 other guys who can play for this team

Didn't the coach from Major League say that?

Eagles didn’t get an OLB but they say they may try and see if Gocong can play there. He’s kind of a DE slash OLB with his size and speed.

What Eagle fans are gonna see from this guy is how effective he's gonna be in the short passing game. He gets out of the initial bumps well, gets into his routes well, knows where he's going, makes real good cuts, gets in and out of his breaks extremely well, and has great hands.

Braylon Edwards was the guy making the spectacular catches at Michigan, but it was Avant who was moving the chains.

He's a clutch receiver, an overachiever, and just a flat out football player.
