paulinstl 296 Posted May 2, 2006 Real questionable strategy employed by Tony LaRussa in the ninth today. Rookie pitcher on the mound after being called up this morning, men on 2nd and 3rd with one out. Two questions: 1. Why leave the rookie in there in that situation? 2. Why not walk Valentin to set up the double play? I know Freel runs well, but don't you have to play for the double play ball there? If the Reds continue to get pitching the way they have, with thier lineup and dramatically improved defense,, they could easily stay in the division chase all year. That's a big if for sure. I just don't think their pitching comes anywhere close to the Cards or Astros this year. They may need to make a move to stay in it for the long haul. Great start to their season so far, though.
