albeeno 0 Posted June 12, 2006 What are the chances Faulk will be out of St. Louis this year either by retirement or other means? How much would Faulk's absence raise Jackson's stock? How about some projections for Jackson with Faulk vs without Faulk. Can we finally see Jackson with 20+ touches this year?
ShaneFalco 0 Posted June 12, 2006 Faulk is nothing more than a third down back. Won't cut into Jackson's numbers any more than any other third down back. I don't think Faulk is much of a threat. There are rumors that he may even retire.
SoloMatisse 0 Posted June 12, 2006 Youre definitely seeing Jackson with a large # of touches.....Faulk may very well move on. Id say right now, it sounds like there's about a 75% chance that Faulk will retire. Chronic knee problems have limited him to the sidelines. Faulk would have had even less action than last year, imo. But without Faulk around, I believe here's what youre looking at from Jackson with a full 16game schedule. 300 carries 1280 yds 11TDs 60 catches 450yds 2 TDs......or something in this ballpark. There's no need to even put Faulk on the field.
devildog 0 Posted June 12, 2006 Is Fisher worth picking up even if you own Jackson? I'm leaning towards.....no.
SoloMatisse 0 Posted June 12, 2006 Is Fisher worth picking up even if you own Jackson? I'm leaning towards.....no. more than likely if you own Jackson, he's your #1RB, so youd like to have his 'cuff. And more than likely noone in their right mind NOT owning Jackson would waste a pick on Fisher, so Id go ahead and snag him in the 20th round as insurance if your able to. Jarvis Basnight 119 Posted June 12, 2006 Source: R.B. Fallstrom, Associated Press St. Louis Rams RB Marshall Faulk is not attending the team's final minicamp this weekend while contemplating retirement because of knees that have been slow to recover from offseason cleanup surgery. New coach Scott Linehan said Friday that two weeks ago Faulk, who has undergone numerous such surgeries on both knees, expressed his concerns. Linehan said Faulk's agent, Rocky Arceneaux, told him again on Thursday that Faulk "wasn't physically ready to go." Stick a fork in Faulk. Maybe he'll replace Michael Irvin this year to make that show watchable again. Even if he does stay with the team he's of absolutely no threat to Jackson's numbers. He's more player/coach than anything else right now. The only thing that can slow down Jackson this year is Jackson.

If he would stay healthy this year and be able to be close to doubling last year's 1st half, he'd end up top 3 and would be a great value. Getting him towards the end of the 1st would be a steal. He's in a great situation and I'd probably take him 5th overall after Portis.....I believe in his upside that much.
kutulu 1,676 Posted June 12, 2006 Heard that Faulk isn't even attending team meetings to learn the new offense. Sounds like he is leaning towards retirement to me. (Jackson owner)
RamslovaMartzhata 3 Posted June 12, 2006 No one knows if Faulk is going to retire... but I disagree with those who say he won't be a factor if he plays. If faulk doesn't retire.. I'd say the opposite is almost certainly true. He won't come back for a paycheck... he'll only come back if he thinks he is going to be able to contribute. Linehan has stated that he would like to utilize him more effectively than was done last year and you simply can't discount the 4th all time TD leader with 136 TD's... and arguably the best receiving back of all time. Don't get me wrong... there is no doubt that Jackson is the man, but his numbers would certainly take at the very least a small hit IMHO. Things we know: Faulk is definitely contemplating retirement. He had both knees scoped (routine in the offseason for years now), is reportedly overweight, and missed voluntary off season workouts in which learning the new offense was a main focal point. I don't think it is that important for Faulk to learn the new offense... he has one of the best football minds of any RB to play the game and I can't see him having a problem picking it up. Knees and conditioning are a big deal though. Anyhow.. this falls into the categroy of wait and see.
