biscuitman357 0 Posted June 13, 2006 I was talking to another guy the other day, and he was pointing out that most of the cars he notices out on the road are either German or Japanese. Then he mentioned that most of the people he knows from work and socially also either have German or Japanese cars and that the only time he consistently sees American cars are with car rental agencies and government fleet vehicles. I've never owned an American car, its not so much the bad rap they get, just that I've always had good luck with Japanese cars and I tend to stick with what works for me until I have a reason to change. But alot of people I know tend to villify American made cars. So, some of you older guys in here, some who have been through a ton of cars in your lifetime - why do American cars get such a bad rap? Strike 5,445 Posted June 13, 2006 In the 70's and 80's American cars went to crap. People started buying foreign cars. American cars are better than they were but still don't measure up to Japanese cars as far as reliability goes. There are very few American cars I'd own now. Fumbleweed 543 Posted June 13, 2006 Honda is Japanese, I would assume, but don't they employ thousands upon thousands of people at plants here in America?
Ryan166 0 Posted June 13, 2006 Honda is Japanese, I would assume, but don't they employ thousands upon thousands of people at plants here in America? Honda produces most of their cars here in North America. The Honda Civic Coupe, Element, Pilot, Ridgeline and the Acura TL and MDX are made in the USA. BigDog 0 Posted June 14, 2006 I considered buying American but I think Toyota makes the best all-around cars on earth and therefore bought one (actually two).
Cdub100 3,894 Posted June 14, 2006 You know I'm not really sure why. I've owed 1 Ford & 2 Chevy cars, all have reached over 100k easy with no problems. I've had current car for 6 years now and it has 107k, runs great.
