josh wiley 58 Posted July 18, 2006 in a twelve team league, when would you go after someone other than a rb? i know that the first three to be taken should be rbs and for that matter probably the first five or six, but at what point does it make sense to draft a top qb or wr in the first instead of a rb? this always seems hard for me to determine. i usually have a good idea of my lists at each positon, but i struggle to integrate them sometimes. When the best available player at another position like QB or WR makes up for the difference in the RB that you would have taken there in comparison to the RB that you'll get later. Fumbleweed 545 Posted July 18, 2006 I have the first player valued above a running back at pick #9 of a 12-team redraft.

De Novo 0 Posted July 18, 2006 Who would that be? I'm with Fumble, but I'm still not sure if I could pull the trigger in that spot. I would imagine that it's Manning or Steve Smith who is at #9.
Zackattack 0 Posted July 18, 2006 I agree with pick 8 or 9 depending on who is taken ahead of you. I would take manning or S.Smith right about there. You will get a good back on the return pick. I am sure you will still find a good RB2 in the third or 4rth rounds.
xenophobe 1 Posted July 18, 2006 I have the first player valued above a running back at pick #9 of a 12-team redraft. This seems about right. I think you hit a point where all the RBs are pretty similar fairly early this year. At the tail end of R1, I'd prefer a stud from another position paired with a guy from that group of backs on the rebound over two RBs. The backs you find at the tail end of R1 just don't seem strong enough to form the basis of your team this year.
TIKI-BARBERS-BARBER 0 Posted July 18, 2006 Word to the wise I never go rb,rb,rb the first three rds unless I like all the rbs that are there at my picks. I think the theory you must go rb the first 3 rds limits you. I'm more of a BAP guy.
josh wiley 58 Posted July 18, 2006 so who would be the eight running backs to take, if pick number nine was to be either a qb or wr? i would be assuming lt, lj, alexander, portis, barber, jordan, jackson and possibly mcgahee.

Just depends on your own personal projections. I've got the first six you mentioned plus Rudi and Edgerrin in my top 8....with Steven Jackson as my #9. McGahee is well down my rankings, but to each their own.

All the others are ok but no way would I put Mcgahee with them. You might want to throw Caddy and Ronnie Brown in after the ones you mentioned.

I have it as "the big 3", Portis, Barber, Rudi, Jordon, James. I might be inclined to put Caddy in there as well.
