thenext0 0 Posted July 28, 2006 I'm picking at the 4 spot and I'm having trouble really separating these guys at this point. I'm hoping training camp and preseason will provide some insight into how to really rank these guys. For now, I'll take a look at the pros and cons of each...(ppr HP scoring, 10 teams, start 1 qb, 2 rbs, 2 wrs, 1 flex rb/wr, 1 te, 1k, 1d) Tiki Barber Pros: Offense getting better, ranks 5th in 2003-2005 crank scores, heavily involved in passing game, doesn't have the wear and tear of most RBs his age, yardage machine, solid QB, 4th overall RB in my league last year. Cons: Not a TD machine, getting to the age where RB #s start to decline, plays in a pretty tough division, not the easiest fantasy playoff schedule (weeks 14-16). Clinton Portis Pros: Al Saunders, solid O-line, improving offense, should have more TD opportunities this year. Cons: Shaky QB, doesn't score enough to enter top tier, doesn't catch many passes, unspectacular crank scores (10th last year, 6th over the past 3). LaMont Jordan Pros: Improving offense, reception machine, 3rd highest RB crank score last year, should improve in 2nd year in Oak, ranked 6th last year in my league is scoring on just 14 games. Cons: New coach, went down with turf toe at the end of the season, not the best O-line, a healthy Randy Moss may take away targets. Basically, I see Tiki's numbers last year as his ceiling this year. Portis has a chance to explode, but with all his hype, he may be considered a bust if he doesn't better last year's numbers. Jordan is the most intriguing. I think he will improve upon his numbers last year. He may be a slight reach at pick 4, but I really like his upside. They are all so close, it's tough to target one at this point. If I were forced to rank them, I think I may be inclined to go 1) Jordan, 2) Tiki, and 3) Portis. It's amazing how PPR really changes rankings...What do you guys think? Bugs Bunny wuz here 0 Posted July 28, 2006 why is the division a knock on tiki but not on portis?
davebg 0 Posted July 28, 2006 Some thoughts: I'd take the QB part out of the equation...all three of these players are on teams w/questions at QB. I haven't looked at the schedule yet for OAK or WAS, but NYG schedule is brutal. All three players in question play for teams who have a big, bruising back that they can (will?) put in for goal line situations. Portis is the one that catches the least number of balls, which obviously hurts in the PPR league. OAK D sux hairy donkey balls, so Jordan might not get much play in the second half of games. Tiki is the oldest of the three and has some mileage on him. Plus, as I've mentioned when discussing other players, Tiki's numbers last year were pretty much as good as they're going to get...chances are his numbers will not be better (or even as good) this year. Pretty much, each of the three players have things going for and against them. At this point, I'd say look for which player has more upside and what your gut tells you. For me, I rank them as Portis, Jordan, Tiki. (And I'm a NYG fan, so it's not like there's any home cookin' going on here.)
shake_a_leg 0 Posted July 28, 2006 Clinton Portis With Saunders running the offense and Randle El added on the outside, Portis could be in for quite a year. The Big 3 could easily be the Big 4 and Portis is it. No added analysis needed because I think your initial break down seals it for him as it is.
Cuse9 131 Posted July 28, 2006 There is noway I'd rank Jordan ahead of James, Jackson, Caddy, Rudi. Doesn't matter because Clinton Portis is the clear choice at #4 this year, IMO.
HawgWild 0 Posted July 28, 2006 I say Portis, Tiki then Jordan... JMHO
thenext0 0 Posted July 28, 2006 Simply put, PPR league = no clear cut #4. Portis will need to put up 4-5 more TDs with his usually yardage numbers to be in the league of Barber and Jordan, thanks to their receptions. Don't overlook that fact.

Portis will need to put up 4-5 more TDs with his usually yardage numbers to be in the league of Barber and Jordan, thanks to their receptions. Don't overlook that fact. Fair enough. Portis' receptions will go up this year though. I know it's a bit of a stretch, but last year under Saunders, Holmes and Johnson combined for 54 receptions and over 500 yards. Portis had 30 for 200 in DC. I would think that the dump off to Portis will be more heavily incorporated into the Redskins arsenal this year so it's not to unreasonable to think that he could have 40+ catches and score 16 - 18 TD's this year. The TD increases alone should push him above Tiki. As far as Jordan goes, I just can't seem to grab on that bandwagon. 70 catches last year is sick, but with Brooks slinging the deep ball and if RMoss stays healthy I don't know that he'll see those kinds of numbers again. Best advice....find a Canadian quarter and say Heads is Portis, Tails is Jordan. Best of 7 wins. Never fails.

RamslovaMartzhata 3 Posted July 28, 2006 why is the division a knock on tiki but not on portis? It isn't much, but two games vs the Skins is a lot worse than two games vs the Giants... at least on paper.
Cuse9 131 Posted July 28, 2006 No way. I'm tellin' ya. I made every critical decision in my life this summer based on this this theory. Now I'm broke....alone....hate my job....life couldn't be better. I sense the need for a hug for somebody. I'm broke: better to be broke than dead. Alone: Considering some of my friends wives/girlfriends....it's a blessing to be alone! Besides, if you had a woman she could be some jealous, possessive, vindictive person that you would end up with for 8 years and look back and wonder why? Hate my job: We all hate our jobs....just some of us make better money at our hated jobs. Life couldn't be better: I've got this friend Dan, he lives life the way it ought to be lived. Live for the moment...hop on your custom and just go......Fluck turn signals....man....fluck'em!!
ajmplaya69 0 Posted July 28, 2006 If your playoffs are wk 15 and 16 Portis and Jordan are looking goood. Also I compared these two with Tiki and Edge (why isnt edge up for debate?) and Edge has the best SOS. Tiki is all bad. 1)Portis 2)Edge 3)Jordan 4)Tiki
xenophobe 1 Posted July 29, 2006 It isn't much, but two games vs the Skins is a lot worse than two games vs the Giants... at least on paper. Perhaps. But last season's results don't support this. The Giants had the higher ranked run defense last year, plus, Tiki outproduced Portis in those games by 200 total yards from scrimage (340 to 140 -with each back scoring 1 TD) . mawk77 0 Posted July 30, 2006 yes, another wrench in the works at the 4 spot fact of the matter is there is no big 3 after the big 3. it's more of a big 7 or 8 with portis, tiki, edge, caddy, sjax, jordan, r brown. i'm sure i've left someone off but you can make an argument for and against each of these guys at the 4 spot.
