ffdomino 0 Posted July 31, 2006 I really like great and large TEs on shakey teams. Always a viable target to quickly dump a ball off. But does anyone think he will have value with T-rAlex (little hands) throwing the ball? It would suck to have that talent wasted. Ranking Gates Gonzo Shockey Heap Crumpler Vernon <--- here? shake_a_leg 0 Posted July 31, 2006 I have him even lower. Not due so much to his QB issues as the fact that there are simply better (read: more proven) TE's out there than him: 1. Todd Heap 2. Antonio Gates 3. Tony Gonzalez 4. Alge Crumpler 5. Jeremy Shockey 6. Randy McMichael 7. Chris Cooley 8. Jason Witten 9. Ben Watson 10. Vernon Davis
harken34 0 Posted July 31, 2006 Give Smith a little break. Even Manning came into the league sucking it up. What did Manning win 2 or 3 games his first year. The niners team needs a lot of help. Even Manning can't throw the ball when he has three guys ready to sack him. You got to give Smith atleast this year and next. And for Davis... I think he's going to be a top 5 TE for sure. Alex is going to be running for his life once again and he'll need to drop the ball of to someone.
RicemanX 20 Posted July 31, 2006 The better question is how high will Vernon Davis drag Alex Smith's value. VD will be a great target for a young QB, especially a young run and gun QB like Alex. Like I said in a previous thread, VD will get 700 yds, 5 TDs.

Mack 1 6 Posted July 31, 2006 I'm not sure how much value a rookie TE could have, even one as (supposedly) talented as Davis. There are, however, two positives about the situation in Frisco: - He may be the team's best receiver - They'll be playing from behind quite a bit
ffdomino 0 Posted July 31, 2006 Great point I am a Niner's fan but I highly doubt even Davis will bring Smith's value into the draftable rhelm. Mayby in a two QB and 14 team league and then I would have questions.
FFOpie 0 Posted July 31, 2006 I don't think I'd put him any higher than 7th on the TE list that isn't solely TD based. There's a lot of talent at TE this year, just don't overspend is the bottomline I guess.
