Fearsome 22 Posted August 1, 2006 Thinking that Gates is a top 10 WR/TE and would like to grab him but not to early. My league does not require a TE but you can draft them and play them as a WR. I am thinking round 3 or 4...Too high? Philip Rivers scares me to death!!!
hungt23 0 Posted August 1, 2006 I am drafting 10th in the same format as you (no TE required) but if he's there for me in the 3rd or 4th round, I'll probably take him after the top WRs are gone.
listen2me 23 1,977 Posted August 1, 2006 You can count on Gates' numbers going down a little with Rivers at QB....I wouldn't say he is a top 10 WR/TE
jgcrawfish 232 Posted August 1, 2006 I believe in most standard scoring leagues Gates finished just outside the top 10 when counted as a WR. There's two schools of thought on Rivers though. First off, he's technically a first year QB, and it's known that "newbies" like that not only like, but rely on their TE. That said, I think Gates won't be able to put up the #'s he had last year. He and Brees had too good a connection that I don't think he'll have a quickly with Rivers. Add to that the fact that SD has done nothing to upgrade their WR's and I see a bit of a down year for Gates.
