Who's won a championship picking Peyton in the First.

Recommended Posts

I've only been playing FF for 3 years, but have never seen anyone win a champion that has picked Peyton in the first round. Anyone on this board win a champioship picking him in the first. I'm sure some has, but how many?

thanks,

My brother picks Manning in the first round every year (his team is the Peyton Mannings), and never wins it all. Reason: Manning (and Harrison, whom he gets 2nd round) don't play much, if at all, during playoff weeks.

Not quite the same thing, but someone in my league in '04 had practically half the Colts team: Peyton/Edge/Wayne/Stokley/Vanderjagt and I think maybe even the Indy D. He rode them to first place and through the playoffs.

Then I creamed him in the champinoship game. :) Thank you, NFL week 17.

Ah, my bad, I checked and it was week 16. And it was little closer than I thought, but very high scoring on both sides...I guess it was more luck that year, he coulda won it against a less-lucky team that didn't have players scoring touchdowns left and right that week.

I won 2 different leagues drafting Peyton in the 1st round. One last year and one the year before. It really comes down to knowing your scoring system and both having a good draft after the 1st AND good waiver wire work.

Year before last was easy. I drafted 12th and took Manning/Harrison. His 49 TD year was a breeze.

Last year was different due to the drop in TD's. But there were some decent rookie RB's to be had in the 2nd and 3rd(Carnell and Ronnie) and a couple of WR's that could be had later like Steve Smith.

I also lost one league taking Manning in the 1st last year. But my 2nd, 3rd and 4th picks went down with injury or suspension, so all was a lost cause.

Drafting well (or lucky) is the key to making any #1 pick count.

Last year our league champ took Peyton first overall and won the championship. (But I think it was his pick of LJ in the 7th that won it for him)

Never happened in any league I ever played in. He is always taken too high IMHO. Would need a QB heavy scoring system for it to happen or some real luck in the subsequent RDs.

I picked Peyton at #2 last year, mostly because I had him in 04. But I won the SB last year but it wasnt because of manning it was cause of LJ in the 9th round. After the first 9 weeks I was 3-6 then I never lost another game cause of LJ.

Obviously the 49TD year SHOULD have yielded a Championship...did in our leagues.

And last year's (Edge getting all the FF points) probably didn't...not in our leagues.

The question is,

Will this year without Edge, put Manning's numbers closer to 49TD ?

I think ESPN did a FACT or FICTION bit with Manning throwing 50TDs this year.

One said fact, the other said fiction.
