wiflord brimley 0 Posted August 31, 2006 What do you guys gals think of this situation that happened in my league ? Shortly after the draft in our 12 team league the commissioner changed the setup from QB, 3WR, 3RB, 1 flex RB/WR, TE, K, DEF to 2RBs. I had sent him several emails asking if we definitely would have 3RBs but I thought we should really have 2 in a 12 team league. He never got back to me (he apparently is suffering from medical problems and had to take Leave of Absence from work and has been very good commish for several years). The rules stills stated 3 RBs during draft so I tried to draft accordingly. Once rules changed I and 2 others voiced complaints. I was the loudest because several people drafted according to the 3starting RB situation. Several others were pissed. I was told I was an idiot by some because no league has 3 starting RBs and that it would not make sense ... I should have known apparently. Also, I should not have been a whiner. I didn;t think this was whining and I understand there were extenuating circumstances but ... the commish never answered my letters, the rules are the rules and the commish quietly without any posting changed the rules the morning after draft. An important note is he was not at the draft. The commish said he would take a majority vote which I still think was unfair because a less than half the teams were hurt. I decided to just accept it but since my team is fine and maybe better off and I'd like to just play but I thought it should at least be discussed. What do you think should have been done? No way should the roster rules be changed after the draft has been held. People draft accordingly based on how many players they need to start at each position. If the rule was put into place beforehand...people may have drafted differently. Instead of picking up that extra running back early..they maybe would have drafted a different position
Phurfur 70 Posted August 31, 2006 In keeper leagues rule changes for next year have to be changed before this year's draft. Rule changes in non keeper leagues must be changed before the draft. Any other way is not fair, you draft according to the rules. You obviously must be RB heavy which will probably work to your advantage. I would put a rule in the league that says all changes must be made before the draft and play the way it is this year and kick there a$$es.
mattcoz 3 Posted August 31, 2006 Rules should not be changed after a draft, unless it is a unanimous decision.
Bojangling 0 Posted August 31, 2006 The rules at the time of the draft should be the rules for the year (barring a unanimous vote). Period.
football_scooter 0 Posted August 31, 2006 1. I totally agree with those who've said no rules changes after the draft. 2. that said, I think you're in a better setup now. 3 RBs AND a Flex in a 12 team league? So a team can start 4 RBs? That's kind of silly. And with 3 RBs required, makes BYE weeks hell on earth. So no, the rules shouldn't have been changed without unanimous vote, but I suspect the 3 RB requirement was a mistake since you also have Flex. I'd let it go, and try to enjoy the season. If the guy has medical issues, this is probably the last thing on his mind - if you do make an issue out of it, at least try to be kind when you approach him, as he's likely dealing with far more important things. Best of luck.

wiflord brimley 0 Posted August 31, 2006 I was going to take a hard line on this, but I agree with Scooter here. It is a tad shady though. Exactly what I did. I like the guy a lot, I just want to have fun, and it probably helps me with having drafted Dillon in 2nd round like an idiot lol. I know this isn;t the forum for this but I'd really appreciate any advice you guys could give me on this roster - like who to dumo in a trade and who I could get for say Dillon, C. Brown and or some WR to get someone more solid at RB ? RB - R. Brown RB - Dillon (regretful) WR - R. Moss WR - P. Burress RB - Foster RB - C. Brown QB - J. Delhomme RB - D. Williams WR - D. Stallworth TE - C. Cooley WR - T. Williamson RB - M. Bennett (Early perhaps and fragile as bone china but they run so damn much) WR - A. Bryant WR - T. Taylor WR - R. Caldwell DEF - Washington K - Janikowski (dropped for C. Cobb - why not take chance until Den decides - plenty of decent K) TE - V. Davis
shasha 0 Posted August 31, 2006 The only way a rule change occurs after the draft is if it is a unanimous decision and improves the league. This definitely improves the league, but as you stated it would hurt you so it isn't a fair change IMHO. As for rule changes, especially for a keeper league, you really have to get those out there far in advance. We are already working on rules for next years draft because we know that our league is kind of like Congress, we can get a bill out there, if just takes a lot of time to rewrite it and get it made into law. G3-175SE 0 Posted August 31, 2006 No changes to the league rules after the draft. That stinks. I think I would ask for my money back. Rules need to be posted well in advance of the draft so everyone know them. I am sorry the commisioner may have been "busy" but that is no excuse. If he was able he should have turned it over to someone else.
DankNuggs 305 Posted August 31, 2006 if there is money involved, rules need to be set in advance of the draft...period...
Cruzer 1,995 Posted August 31, 2006 that's bullshit, you got hosed. but question: even with the commish not there, why didn't you bring it up before the draft started with the other owners?
wild_and_crazy_guy 5 Posted August 31, 2006 Although I think the new rule is a good one, your commish can not just declare that the rules have changed after the draft because people draft according to the scoring system and rules. There are 3 options... Option A - The rules stay as they were before the draft. Option B - Put the proposed change to a league vote, but it would require unanimous approval. Option C - Vote to change the rule and re-draft all new teams - probably the worst option. If the commish refuses to go with one of these options, then you and the other owners should be able to get your $$ back and quit the league.
wiflord brimley 0 Posted August 31, 2006 that's bullshit, you got hosed. but question: even with the commish not there, why didn't you bring it up before the draft started with the other owners? I had posted it on the board as a question a week or two before the draft with no response. I brought it up with a few owners before the draft via the phone. We agreed it was strange and hoped for a clarification but if we got none we'd have to assume these were the rules. I didn;t bring it up in chat during draft due to (1) I didn;t think it would mater because commish wasn;t there and (2) I forgot.
Dr Venture 0 Posted August 31, 2006 Still a forum rookie, but I think I know the awnser: You should drive over to his house and punch him in the face infront of his wife and kids while they are having dinner. Note: I brought up this universal solution at one of my drafts and now we all use it! As a GM who routinely stocks up on RBs, I would be pissed about the change, but not crippled, since I have the most coveted position in spades. (Says the experts: "Dont worry about RBs, who can always trade for them later...")
