iceblumist610 0 Posted September 12, 2006 Everyone on this board seems really, really high on Ben Watson. I'm not a Patriots fan in the least, and didn't see their game this week, so I really don't know what's special about the guy. I do know that someone in my league just dropped him, so I have the opportunity to go in and grab him. Unfortunately, I don't have an extra roster spot, and don't really feel like dropping Mike Bell (my 4th RB), or Gabriel (my 5th WR). So...I could pretty much drop him straight up for Dallas Clark, or drop a backup defense. My question... what is Ben Watson worth? Clark wasn't highly rated, but outperformed him by 5 points this week. Due to my cable guy being lazy, I don't get cable until Wednesday, and thus didn't see either game. Is Watson worth the pickup? rozniarek 0 Posted September 12, 2006 Ben Watson is a Machine .He is Bradys best target.Drop Gabriel. He will out perform Dallas Clark as well.I saw a interview with Brady and he said he misses Branch but him and Watson have a connection as well and he could have a huge year. This is the QB talking. RoboAA 1 Posted September 12, 2006 I'd drop your backup D for him. They will help you one week, Watson is essentially the WR1 in NE and an every week start.
SmartassBoiler 0 Posted September 12, 2006 With the trade of Branch, Watson has become the #1 receiving option in NE. That's the recipe for great fantasy success. His week 1 numbers aren't great, but the entire passing game was bad. He was still the leading receiver. I expect a bounceback for both the NE passing game and Watson this week. iceblumist610 0 Posted September 12, 2006 Thanks. After checking it out, he and Clark have the same bye week, so I dropped Clark for him. Hopefully, y'all are right.

kcsportsguy 0 Posted September 12, 2006 The Pats will either run or Brady will throw to Ben Watson. I was able to snag him and very happy that Ben will be a Top 3 TE.
iceblumist610 0 Posted September 12, 2006 Well, edr, I don't need him to be top three to do me good, I need him to be better than clark. And what's really nice is Clark's TD helped me pull of a tie in a game I should've had no business in. So if Watson outperforms him the rest of the year, I still had Clark's week one. shasha 0 Posted September 12, 2006 As a huge Dallas Clark fan the last few seasons I can honestly say, drop Clark, take Watson and don't even think about it. Clark is injury prone and will be a blocking TE a lot this season. I have watched a lot of preseason Colts games and even the other night they were sending Utecht out in patterns while keeping Clark in for protection. Clark has a ton of skill and upside, but he will have one good week and then 3 weeks of not getting a sniff of the ball. Branch going to Seattle is the best news for Watson owners. Watson creates major mismatches on LBers who he can outrun, CB's and safeties that he can overpower and usually outrun as well. Plus he is a monster after the catch. Caldwell, Brown and Gabriel will be enough to keep defenses honest, but this year is Watson's breakout year. And with that running game, playaction to suck the LBers up, give Watson a half a step and he is gone. If you question his speed all you have to do is look back at him running Champ Bailey down in the playoff last year. He was on the other side of the field and chased him down from over 100yds and knocked him out of bounds and caused a fumble (that was clearly a safety). He is the best option they have now and the only one worth having on any FF roster. If you look at the other TE's in the league now, Vick is spreading the ball a little more so Alge may take a hit. Gates is dealing with Rivers and Marty is looking to run even more. Gonzon just lost Green for an unknown amount of time (don't take that concussion too lightly, that was the precursor to Aikman and Young retiring) and he wasn't setting the world on fire anyway. Shockey and Miller have tons of upside with streaky games and young QB's in run first offenses. That really leaves a big hole for a jump into the top 3 for Watson if not #1 overall. I also like McMichael, but Culpepper hasn't looked great this season either.
bigtuna 0 Posted September 12, 2006 Watson is going to be the #1 target in NE. I see a potential 10 TD season

Which averages out to about 50 catches for 500 yds. Average, but not great. Another over-hyped fantasy player by internet nerds.
