Brown Eyed Girl 1 Posted September 28, 2006 The gym I just joined is offering this 1 hour class tonight. I'm debating on whether I want to do it or not... Any input from someone who knows something about it?
Ravens 03 0 Posted September 28, 2006 Never have done it. But why do this when you can video yourself doing the striptease aerobics? HTH
jerryskids 6,617 Posted September 28, 2006 I don't know about the "turbo" part, but the kickboxing aerobics classes look like a fun workout. Words of warning: I do martial arts, and I've suspected that these classes can't help but incredibly fatigue some of the small muscles in your body, like the joint of your hip and quad (from front kicks), and the shoulder blade (from punches). If you take it, try to monitor these places and take it easy if necessary. You may not realize it at the time, but you may be in for some major pain in the coming days. My upper legs, hips and abs are really sore today from stripping lastnight! (well, you know... the cardio part of it all) I think I'm gonna give it a try - see if I like it or not. But I'll definitely take it easy.

naomi 356 Posted September 28, 2006 I'm in a regular cardio kickboxing class that is fairly fun (they play good music) and a good work out. Assuming turbo means going faster, it should be good. edit: Just read JK's reply, that's true. A lot of times I don't make sure I'm going smoothly because I want to keep up the pace. My instructor has us crouch for this one sequence and I thought that was considered a detrimental exercise move. My knees kind of hurt now, not sure if it's just my form. But other than that, it works out a lot of areas. He also has us do a ton of push ups, leg lift like stuff and so on after the cardio. After the entire thing, there is this feeling that so many places are worked out, and fairly evenly all around, which is a good feeling.
Brown Eyed Girl 1 Posted September 28, 2006 Is this like that DVD on QVC Turbo Jam? I'm not sure, NewGirl. I've done Tae Bo video's before... (I don't think that's what you're talking about, though) and there was a lot of kicking and punching maneuvers in that. I have no idea how this will compare to that. If it is a squat that doesn't go past 90 degrees, it should be good, in fact excellent as it is working mostly the large leg/butt muscles. If you mean like a catchers stance, I would recommend to treat those like plyometrics: if you do them, do them in small doses and let your body recover adequately. Link about plyometrics if you are interested.

Sounds like what I'm looking for - an all over body workout. I hope this is similar to what you are describing. I'll let you know when I get back later on. He had a genuine conviction people shouldn't squat well exercising, I forget his rationale though. I think I just need to do it smoother and maybe not so low. That shouldn't really hurt your knees then, unless you are new to doing them, in which case it is most likely the muscles immediately around your knee and not the joint themselves. I often find that area sore when I get back into exercising, and that it is relieved by stretching or rolling on a foam roller. If that doesn't work then perhaps you have some joint issues? In general IMO a controlled squat is the single best and most effective exercise for your quads and glutes. GL
Brown Eyed Girl 1 Posted September 29, 2006 Well, I just got back and it was pretty intense. Just very fast-paced and I'm feeling sore already... especially in the lower back as you twist from side to side with the upper cuts and cross punches. I feel really worn out right now. It was okay. With it being my first time in that class, I wasn't familiar with the moves as most of the others were... and they changed it up so much, adding new moves continuously throughout the workout. I kept up as well as I could. One thing's for sure... I got a lot of angressions out tonight! And yes, J/K and Naomi, there was quite a bit of squatting incorporated. I'm going to be one sore girl tomorrow.

Just dial 1-800-W-BEATER and he'll come over with his massaging fists.
naomi 356 Posted September 29, 2006 Whoa, if you kept up well, that's impressive. My class is actually at college, possible to get credit for, so we all started from the same place. The day after is when all the soreness really sets in. I'd have been really lost trying to jump in now. There's about 35 of us and just two guys but our instructor is male. He says stuff like imagine your ex boyfriend sometimes because it's definintely a good aggression filtering environment. Glad you had a good time If you try out the hip hop aerobics, let me know how that is.

Glad you had a good time If you try out the hip hop aerobics, let me know how that is. I tried out Hip-Hop lastnight.. right after my cardio strip class. It wasn't really a hip-hop aerobics class, though. They just walked us through dance moves for 30 minutes and at the end we put it all together and danced to about the first 1/4 of this song. Hip Hop aerobics would have been more fun, imo and I'll keep my eyes open for that if they offer it. So far, the cardio strip tease has been the most fun and best workout for me. LOTS of dancing involved. I'm thinking I'll just be doing that 2 nights/wk and then maybe a Yoga or Pilates class 2 more days. Not sure yet. And believe me, I was imagining my 'ex' tonight... that was what kept me right there giving it my all for a full hour! I've got Gus from the pier on call for you. Just dial 1-800-W-BEATER and he'll come over with his massaging fists. Hmmm... I think I'll pass on that Jerry. You made it sound so much more appealing earlier. If I weren't married, and you looked remotely like the pic you posted, and I lived near you, and you were in any way interested, I think we'd have a chance. Well that was a really nice compliment Jerry, thanks! I take it you give good post-workout back rubs? Just saying, cuz I wouldn't want to like pass up any chances I might have had with Gus down at the docks or anything, you know?

Of course if you have no problem with your shoulder being moved to your hip, who am I to complain?
