D'ohmer Simpson 0 Posted March 6, 2007 [Dr. Nick Riviera] HI EVERYBODY!! [/Dr. Nick Riviera] Because of all the songs I have added to my computer's hard drive I have gotten an external hard drive. I would like to put all of the song files onto this new external hard drive and take them off the local C drive. All of these songs have a file location associated with them. For instance, if you click on Get Info each song in the iLibrary tells me where it is located, for instance: C:\My Documents\My Music\iTunes Library\Library\Metallica\One or something to that effect. My question is, if I move all of these files onto the new external drive, how do I tell iTunes all those files are no longer on the C: drive, but on the new drive? Any help would be appreciated. davebg 0 Posted March 6, 2007 Your best bet is to copy the music from your iPod to the new hard drive. itsatipthatilounge ETA: I have used PodUtil a couple of times before and had no problems.
FranksTanks 0 Posted March 6, 2007 easy. point your iTunes to your new drive. make sure your settings are set so all the music is copied and organized through itunes which I'm sure it is. delete the old file out of iTunes, but do not send the files to the trash. locate the old songs on the C drive and drag them into iTunes. That will move them and copy them onto you new drive, then you can delete them off of your local C drive.
D'ohmer Simpson 0 Posted March 6, 2007 Thanks davebg. I was hoping to stay away from using utilities. I see in this link that it looks like I can just point the default location to the new drive. I think I can just copy all the songs over, then point to the new location? I think I'll test that out, and if it works, then I'll delete the songs off the C: drive. But I would appreciate more comments if there is an even easier/better way and if anyone has had issues.
