San Francisco...... Most Improved TEAM...period

Recommended Posts

In addition to the age difference, Grossman has been hurt several times in his young career, whereas Alex Smith seems to be pretty big and tough comparatively. I'd say that for the money, the Niners have gotten more out of Smith in 2 years than the Bears have out of Grossman in 5 years.

False. Smith has made more money in his two years than Grossman has in his entire career.

Also of note is that while the pure stats seem to reflect Grossman as the "better" QB, when looking game by game, Smith was far more consistent.

far more? Smith had more than his share of poor games - more than Rex:

13-25, 92 yds, 2 INTs

14-25, 135 yds, 2 INTs

13-21, 105 yds, 1 INT

13-25, 148 yds, 2 INTs

14-28, 171 yds, 3 INTs

12-29, 201 yds, 2 INTs

Grossman had a couple of monster games, posting QB ratings over 100. Then he had several games posting a rating well under 100. Including one game where he posted a 0. That's a z-e-r-o. Another game he posted a 1.6 rating. Alex Smith's worst game of 2006 was a 27.4 rating, and other than that he didn't have a game below 41.

Including playoffs, Grossman had 10 games over 95 qb rating, not a couple. 5 bad games and 3 in between. Dont let facts get in the way of a good story however.

10 good

3 mediocre

5 bad

You can cherry pick a 41 qb rating if that suits your argument. As shown above, he had several bad games, not just 1.

How much of a difference is there between a guy who throws 27 TDs and 26 Ints and a guy who throws 16 and 16? Seems pretty similar to me.

Discuss.

The difference is 1 more TD than INT and I didnt say they were dissimilar. I posted the numbers and over the same # of starts, Grossman's numbers were superior overall.

The 49ers? To me, they are vanilla ice cream. Not crazy about it, but I don't hate it either.

Like I said, let's hope all four teams are competitive so the NFC West isn't the joke of the NFL.

So that season sweep didn't bother you in the slightest?

FYI you're labeled a hater because you consistenty bash the Niners. HTH

Last year is last year. The Hawks were an OT away from another championship game, the niners were well, 7-9.

Trust me, the 49ers are hardly on my bash radar. I complimented their offseason but suggested they needed to follow up with success on the field in order to be recognized and to some sensitive types that is bashing? Like I said. Whatever works for ya :dunno:

Nah, that's pretty tame, actually. I guess I'm just used to you circa "Alex Smith, 1 TD" rookie year commentary.

But ok - I conceded that the team, as is, has not played on the field. But you should recognize that the core of this team was on the field for some very big stops against your Seahawks and Denver, at Denver. That game was like Niner's fan's superbowl last year. Moore is a rising star - if you play IDP and don't know him, you should. The secondary now has 2 of 3 starters experienced vets who will both run through a wall for the coach. And Vernon Davis was looking great at the end of last year.

This should be a breakout season for Smith, regardless of what the record is.

As I've said - I think they're a lock to improve 1 game. 8-8. That'a a .500 season 3 years after Dennis focking Ericson was our lame duck coach, and the owner was taking out 2 page ads apologizing to the fans.

But upside, I think the team is capable of 9-7 or even 10-6. Might be wild card worthy. It all depends on how smart the new blood is and how well they adjust and gel to playing together. So if not this year, I think you ought to worry about the Niners in 2008. They're building a very, very good football team.
