Dragan187 7 Posted June 20, 2007 Tried to get some tabs yesterday. 4 of the 5 websites I usually go to, pop up a messaage that said something like this... Due to actions threatened by the National Music Publishers Association and the Music Publishers Association of America under the Digital Millenium Copyright Act, AllGuitarTabs.com is not offering guitar tablature at this time. We our currently evaluating our legal rights and options at this time, but unfortunately cannot offer tablature in the meantime. Check back frequently for updates. fretplay.com still has them available. If you use tab music...you might want to get all you can now...cuz the future looks bleak. BiPolarBear 497 Posted June 20, 2007 I have used the sites for chords and lyrics. I don't read tab. I have noticed that some of the information is dead wrong, though.

You'll find lots of, shall we say, 'interpretations'. I've noticed that some repeat posters are capable of playing every song in G, C, D (not without the periodic Am flourish, I'm sure). Wait a second...how can you not read tab? If there are certain styles of music you play (ie classical, bluegrass, flamenco) you can find sites devoted to them. I've also seen some youtube players with links to tab/sheet music of the arrangement they're playing.

I could struggle thru a tab if I was forced, but never have the idea to do it on my own. I can solo over most popular songs without even thinking about which notes I am playing. Despite 35 years of playing, and a fairly high skill level, I often feel that I need tab or sheet music for new pieces. I play almost exclusively solo acoustic/classical anymore, so nobody to hide behind. It's one of the things I miss about bands. One of the few things. You probably have a higher standard for staying close to the original song than I do. For example: I will take the first few seconds of a Santana solo and follow it with the same feel without attempting to learn the rest of his solo. I played the lead stuff on "Tuff Enuff" by the Fabulous Thunderbirds with a band. I saw The Thunderbirds on TV playing the same song and ran to get my axe. I thought I would "fine tune" my solo. Jimmy Vaughn played the song completely different than the recording. It was like he never heard his own song. That is what I try to do live...with apologies to the numerous better pickers than me. I'd LIKE to say it's because of my desire to stay close to the original. I think it actually has more to do with my tendency to wander off in my own, often unrelated direction. Damn my short attention span!
