Kenton Keith

Recommended Posts

Does anybody have the scoop on Kenton Keith? I would assume that he will likely remain the primary back-up to Addai since we went all the way through TC with the Colts... I certainly didn't see this coming. I bet Dorsey didn't either :shocking: What kind of value does Keith have?

He had looked decent in camp and in the preseason games, look for the Colts to add a vet F/A as the backup RB however, rumored candidates include Dillon and Barlow.

Played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL prior to joining the Colts. Was widely regarded as the most dynamic playmaker in the CFL, and likewise the best runningback. Came to the Colts and was signed as an FA, and made the team despite being undersized by most NFL standards. He is a shifty and surprisingly powerful back who is more quick than fast. He has great burst, and has a knack for setting up his defenders and making them look silly in the open field. He has great hands (as do most backs who play in the pass-happy CFL), and has great moves. His blocking is adequate (another important aspect of a CFL back), and he makes good defensive reads. He really is like a less talented Joseph Addai. Should anything happen to Addai it is unlikely he will be able to fill his shoes, but he would be great is a situational role whereby he could spell Addai if he needs a breather. In the end, I think most people would agree that any back that winds up as the starter in Indy is worth a look. Obviously for Keith the only way that will happen is if Addai gets injured.

Thanks Bentley, that was a very concise report! I was able to pick up Keith in my deep dynasty league.

i hope the colts stick with keith if there options are kevan barlow or corey dillon[still seviceable] .barlow showed nothing for the jets last year and very soft in the steelers training camp this year, dillon i think will stay retired.

Kenton Keith is a nice little back in the CFL. However, he is nice, but nothing special. He is nowhere near as good as Charles Roberts from Winnipeg, and nowhere near as dynamic as Jesse Lumsden from Hamilton. But Keith is decent enough.

I agree about Charles Roberts, but he wouldn't make it in the NFL unless it was as a special teamer. Lumsden, however, is a one trick pony. He is not dynamic at all, he has no lateral speed whatsoever, which is perhaps the single aspect that kept him from making an NFL roster. That and he cannot block.

Jesse is averaging about 8.5 yards a carry, and has break away speed, so I would argue that he is dynamic. I wish he made the NFL, as he was in Seattle's camp. I don't understand how he didn't beat out Mo Morris.

It would be interesting to see what Roberts, or even Joe Smith or Jarrett Payton could do in the NFL. But Roberts is so entrenched in the CFL, as the Blue Bombers leading rusher in their history, that it would be hard for him to make the transition. Hell, guys like Milt Stegal, Matt Dominguez, or Simon might be decent WRs too. But I guess we will never know.

By the way, Bently, I respect your CFL opinions. I am an avid bettor on CFL football, so I follow the league closely. So it's nice to hear opinions on the league.

Even at his advanced age Stegall's one of the premier receivers in the CFL. It would have been nice to see what he could have done in the NFL, but he's been quite happy spending his career in Winnipeg. And he could be the biggest fan favourite in Blue Bomber history - they absolutely love him there.

I go to the same University that Lumsden graduated from. He dominated at the collegiate level, but his shortcomings were evident. His sideline-to-sideline speed is not adequate to be an NFL back. But he could be a decent short-yardage specialist I suppose. His straight-line speed is just ok, but he does have good vision, and his O-line has always opened up gaping holes for him so he finds the open field pretty quickly. Averaging 8.5ypc in the CFL is very good, but it isn't anything like the NFL. There are almost always 4-wideout sets with men in constant motion all over the line which means Jesse never sees anything more than 6 men in the box. He is a great CFL rusher and I'm glad to see him succeed, but couldn't cut it in the N.

Milt Stegal's days have passed, but in his prime he could have definately been an impact player in the NFL. Simon is amazing, and could probably find his way into a slot role in the NFL, but he is an elite player who makes good money on the defending championship team. Dominguez may very well try out for the NFL one day, and he is very solid. Again, though, CFL receivers benefit from the lack of coverage they see. If you want to talk about talent at wideout, remember the name Paris Jackson from BC. He is a stud who makes incredible catches routinely. He could make an NFL team one day as a third wideout. If nothing else he is fun to watch.

Joe Smith of BC is also amazing. He was on the Titans depth chart a few years back, and there were rumblings around training camp that he might have pushed his way into the no.2 role behind Chris Brown (when he was good). His newfound success in BC might give him another shot.

Do you guys buy into Dungy's claims to again use a two-back system this season?

If so, how many touches do you see the #2 (whether Keith or someone else) averaging per game?

RIDERS RULE!!! :overhead:

7-2

Wasn't Stegall a Saint? (Too lazy to check!)

I think Keith has a reasonable chance to be a stable back up.

If not the Riders would love him back to give him a shot at the Coupe Grey!!

I have not seen anything where Dungy has stated that they are going to use a two-back system this year. I don't know anything about Keith, but I do have a roster spot so I stashed him away. I think any RB can run in that system.

While Dungy said Addai will be the Colts’ go-to back, he said the team very much wants to continue using the two-back system it used successfully last season en route to winning Super Bowl XLI.

“We want to keep going with that system of rotating our backs,” Dungy said. “We obviously want Joseph to get most of the work. But we’ve always had that (a solid second back), whether it was Dominic (Rhodes) the first five years I was here, and then Joseph (last season) coming off the bench and giving us a lift. I think that position is very important.”

Any news on this situation? A guy in my league just called me and told me that the commisioner opened up the add/drop list earlier today and that he picked up Keith and now wants the Raiders defense for him . Would be nice if they signed somebody today that he didnt know about or are rumors that somebody else is going to sign with them that way I could pick them up

without losing Oakland defense.
