Zap 0 Posted July 31, 2004 My suggestion/idea is posted below. Our draft will be LIVE the night before the opener. That's 25 rounds LIVE, so count on a three hour effort. Again... Wednesday, September 8th, 2004, at 6PM PST. Mark your Calendars. I'm starting this thread to finalize the decision on where we will draft. Currently at Yahoo I have reserved the above time and date, just in case. I have no intention of using their draft room with a two minute timer. Too many things can go wrong, possibly screwing up the league's most important day. There is almost no chance we will be drafting there, so if you visit the site, do not make anything of the draft message. It's just a prepreprecautionary reservation, because I know that time and date will not be available in a week. Nevertheless, if you're bored and starting your war room efforts, you may want to rank players there as you make your draft sheets. So, what's the plan? Our previous discussion pretty much ended with the comments in quotes below. (Zap) If you have a safer suggestion than Yahoo, let's hear it. (t.j) http://www.geocities.com/satori85/Chat.htm?x=51&y=16 we used this last year for the league i commish and as i recall it worked great. just ask bluepointer pik t-run 95. although it won't give you all the automatic stuff you want. i don't really know anything about the yahoo live draft. personally i prefer the flexibility of an "offline" draft. (PIK) Imho, USE THE CHAT! It's sooo easy Zap. Yahoo Suxors. Chat is great because it's fast and organized, while yahoo "live" has a 1:30 time limit on picks no matter what. Plus people can look in on the chat if they want to follow the draft, unlike on yahoo, where it is only open to people in the league to look in. I have done hundreds of yahoo live drafts and TJ's "Live Chat" was better then every one of them. So, here's the chat that PIK and t.j use in the league t.j fuhners. Take it for a spin and let me know if the pop-ups are a problem. Also, here's a chat I set up at the new GOIDPANKAL site that I'm playing around with. Take it for a spin and let me know if it's better than the other. They seem like the same basic chat platform. Mine doesn't have any pop-ups. The other one does. t.j has checked it out (mine) and said it looked pretty good. Diesel checked it out and couldn't get it to load. I think he needed a java upgrade, but he never let me know. I have played with both of them, and I can crash them both by posting very fast. But, I can get right back in by refreshing the page and re-entering my name. I have no idea if one is better, but I kind of like using the GOIDPANKAL one if it is the same or better (no pop-ups). As mentioned in another thread, I am willing to set-up a fanball draft room for 10 bucks. I like this option alot. I admit that I am a little intimidated by drafting in and tracking a live 25 rounder in a chatroom. I do have some draft software that will help me out, but I cannot update the draft for your reference (very fast). You will be on your own to know who is and isn't available. I can post a running list of the entire draft in a thread here every round or so. I will slow down the chat draft when I do this. You will have to have a page open here and refresh it for updates and references. It will not be listed like the mock, by position. It will just be the numerical sequence of our draft, and it will be behind by several picks through most of the draft. With the fanball draft room, there is a players pool, and drafted players are removed. There is also an update of each pick and teams roster for your perusal. There is a clock that I would suspend. So, you cannot draft a taken player, and you will not get hit with computer selections. It doesn't provide cheatsheets. Which is good. It does list players by last year's stats. Which is no problem, because we all have access to that information anyway. You can create a test draft here and tell me what you think. It says it's 9.95, but if you just create a draft, select 'not a fanball league,' and click 'next' all the way through to the draft room, you will be able to play with it for three rounds for free. Diesel says he did it. It worked fine for him. Our discussion about the time and date can be found... HERE. Our draft order pick picking thread with your draft position can be found... HERE. FourTwoOh 0 Posted July 31, 2004 I like the fanball option. And, as I was one who was willing to make this a fee league, I'd be happy to split the cost with ya Zap.

Sisters of No Mercy 0 Posted August 2, 2004 Basically, whatever you guys decide upon will have to work for me. I'm not on the computer I will be drafting from, and I won't be until after the 22nd of August. I won't be able to test the waters on whatever you guys have selsected until then. I won't be able to test the waters on whatever you guys have selsected until then. I can't think of any reason why we can't wait for you to be back in Korea. It's not that big of a deal. I'm sure you'll be able to access the chat, and considering t.j's "success" with it, I'm sure it will work for all if necessary. So that being said, we'll revisit this topic once you're there. I'll leave it pinned for the others for now, and we'll figure it out when the time nears.

lord13rahl 0 Posted August 3, 2004 I am stil partial to paying for a quality site...about $10 a person is not much...but I am easy....I'll go with the majority as well. One thing though, since we are waiting till the very last minute, wouldn't it be wise to invest a little to prevent a major meltdown. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, my Pappy use to say!

Zap 0 Posted August 3, 2004 i could never figure out why moderators sticky topics if forums that dont even have a second page. Maybe because I want people to respond? That's usually the only time I pin topics. Once all 11 have responded, I take them down. I'll consider this your response. Thanks.

Butcher 0 Posted August 4, 2004 I am stil partial to paying for a quality site...about $10 a person is not much...but I am easy....I'll go with the majority as well. This is where I'm at. I would be HAPPY to pay $10 or whatever it takes. I don't really care though, I'm not going to be a nazi about it...if the majority would rather do it on yahoo or wherever, that fine with me too. Zap 0 Posted August 4, 2004 Alright. There's me paying ten bucks for a draft room, and there's us all paying 10 bucks (or less) to get a custom site. I'm interested in an agreement on the draft locale first. So far the fanball draft room seems to be best. I would warn you, because I know most of you didn't actually create a draft and play with it, that the interface is... well... it takes getting used to. We're waiting on Sonm to get to Korea to be sure on this issue anyway. I'm going to be very busy from today through the weekend. If any of you want to look at custom sites and make sure they fit our format and find out which is best and what it costs and give me a roadmap with instructions and all that so I can be sure I did the right thing or at least something we all agreed upon then discuss it amongst yourselves and clue me in. I believe we had this conversation last year and RTS was the winner??? I'm not sure though. I have only used Yahoo and Fanball and a chalkboard for my local league. I have seen alot of cool MFL sites. Who knows the particulars about these things? Pipe up. Chime in.
Butcher 0 Posted August 4, 2004 Why can't we do the draft here?
Zap 0 Posted August 4, 2004 Why can't we do the draft here? 25 rounds live on a message board is doable, but I think it would be exhausting and slower than the other ideas. I watched a 22 round IDP mock draft last weekend and it took 2 hours and 18 minutes. If they tried that here it would have taken four hours.

I would warn you, because I know most of you didn't actually create a draft and play with it, that the interface is... well... it takes getting used to. To be honest I did create a draft and after setting it up (everything was looking sweet at that point), I clicked Start Draft and nothing happened. I thought that was strange. But I figured if you and Diesel played with it and it worked, I could trust it based on that.

Yeah, when you create it, you're the moderator, so after starting it, you have to force some picks to get to yours, and then it acts for you like it does for others. Follow? The draft you created is still there waiting for you to play with it, btw. I've messed with the one I created several times and it took awhile to get it down as a moderator, but it is very simple for "just" an owner to log in and pick. There's a button in the upper right corner for pausing and starting the draft. If it says "pause draft" then the draft is active. If it says "start draft" then the draft is paused. vlade21 0 Posted August 4, 2004 Yeah, when you create it, you're the moderator, so after starting it, you have to force some picks to get to yours, and then it acts for you like it does for others. Follow? Yeah I know. Basically I didn't figure out how to get it out of the paused state and into the active state, I thought the timer would start on the first guy when I clicked Start Draft. It looks like you got in there and got things going? I just checked on it and the first pick had been made. Anyway I agree that it looks real easy to use from a user (non-mod) standpoint. The timer is nice, and I set it so that the mod has to manually skip someone whose time runs out, as opposed to it just happening automatically, which is nice. Zap 0 Posted August 4, 2004 It looks like you got in there and got things going? I just checked on it and the first pick had been made. Not me. I wouldn't know what you named it or how to find it. Mine's on my profile there. It's the only one I've played with. I could have set it up for all of us, but didn't know what I was doing in the set-up phase. Zap 0 Posted August 17, 2004 Suggestion... Since 25 rounds is a load for a single live session, and since we're right on the edge of the opener, I suggest we start the draft early here on the board, after the last preseason game. I know there are certain schedule conflicts over both weekends leading up to the regular season, but we could get a few rounds under our belts without time limits or great expectations. 420 will be on the road, but I have his cell #. If we only completed three rounds, it would still be less burden on draft night, and it would also make sure we were all in communication of some sort leading up to the live draft. Yay? Nay? Diesel07 0 Posted August 17, 2004 Yay (1st time i used that damn smiley) Zap, have we decided on a site to hold our draft? Im aginst Yahoos because 1 min 30 secs isnt enough time. If you need 10 bucks or so, i cna shell it out. ETA: Who traded draft picks and what picks?

Zap 0 Posted August 17, 2004 2 Yays 0 Nays... D07-- No, we haven't decided on a draft site. We're going to let Sonm get to Korea on the 22nd or so and then see what works best for him from there. It's not going to be at Yahoo regardless. It's either going to be in a chat or at fanball. We wait to decide. Your preference is irrelevant.
Zap 0 Posted August 17, 2004 One more thing. If it's the fanball room we use, then we can start the draft early there. This would familiarize everyone with how the room works before running live. It could smooth out the live draft a little to be using the room a week ahead of time. It has some funky programming. The scroll features can make you feel like you've really focked up something. But you haven't...
Zap 0 Posted August 17, 2004 Nay I vote YAY! Yay = 3 Nay = 1 Why nay, t.j?
vlade21 0 Posted August 17, 2004 Why nay, t.j? We've been over this. Same reason I didn't want to do a non-live fraft in general. Because if we do it non-live for a week I'll spend that entire time hitting refresh to see if anybody picked and overanalyzing my next selection. I don't want to waste that time when we could just burn through the 2 rounds live in half an hour. I'm not even planning to have a fraft bored prepared until Tuesday the 7th. Diesel07 0 Posted August 17, 2004 Your preference is irrelevant. Yea, i dont want to do it "weeks" in advance either, but if you want to get the draft started early THAT DAY than im down
