Kilroy 0 Posted July 3, 2008 As a third-year vet and former sixth round pick, Derek Anderson surprised everyone last year after replacing Charlie Frye as the Browns starting quarterback just one game into the season. Despite the presence of Brady Quinn, whom many expected would be under center for Cleveland by the end of the year once Frye got the boot, Anderson thrived in his role as the starting QB. He finished the season completing just 56.5% of his passes, but threw for 3786 yards and 29 touchdowns. He also ran it into the end zone 3 times. The only statistical blemish he had were his 19 interceptions thrown. Heading into the 2008 campaign Cleveland seems to have all the pieces in place to keep Anderson among the top fantasy performers at the QB position. They've even added another weapon for him with the addition of Donte' Stallworth in the off-season. Will Anderson pick-up where he left off last season, or will he prove to be no more than a one-year wonder?
dcgangstas 41 Posted July 4, 2008 Even though I have him pegged for just two fewer TD passes (27) with around 3725 yards passing, I'll still say stay put. He has a terrific o-line anchored by Joe Thomas, a good RB in Jamal Lewis, and added Stallworth as yet another target along with Edwards and Winslow. They will have a significantly tougher schedule in 2008, and they'll be inclined to throw to keep up with the better offensive teams. I also think Anderson will be more consistent. He threw 14 of his 29 TD in 4 games, meaning he only had a relatively pedestrian 15 TDs passing in the other 12. I think he'll be just fine. Makes a very good late 6th round pick in a 12=team serpentine redraft. And yes, barring injury, he will keep Brady Quinn on the pine for another year. tenaciousb 0 Posted July 4, 2008 If DA has 2 consecutive bad games Brady Quinn will be starting so fast your head will spin. I'm not a Quinn fan at all, but the Browns have invested alot of money and a #1 pick in Quinn. They will look for a way to throw him in there.

Staying Put ~ The one thing that scares me about D.A is if this team starts losing games...if they get out to say a 2-5 record one would have to think the Brady Quinn era will start... So I'm somewhat hesitant to grab him... without a doubt I grab him if his ADP has him available and we are a round or two past that point but not so sure I gamble on him.... does that make sence
PackYourNut 47 Posted July 4, 2008 I say a step down and if you're going to wait on QB's, there is better value to be had. DA is usually the 5th or 6th QB taken. Going before Bulger, McNabb, Hass and others. IMO, if you pass on the top3, then you're better off waiting to the 6th or 7th and grab one of the remaining QB's. In addition, you can grab Shaub or Delhomme in the 8-12 rounds to partner up and play match ups. Both QB's I think will have excellent years barring injury to them or their stud WR's. treat88 0 Posted July 4, 2008 Count me in the way way down group. Savage, for better or for worse, has put the Browns in a win-now situation with the off-season acquisitions (not great players) he's made at the expense of draft picks. I don't think Anderson can handle the pressure of the win-now environment combined with the impending BQ talk if he wobbles even slightly. Given this environment along with his lack of accuracy in the short/intermediate games combined with poor decision making spells a very disappointing season. I don't think he's the starter by week 10.
Stalker711 0 Posted July 4, 2008 i see him staying put. He's got a great OL in front of him, he's got great targets in Edwards and Winslow, and a resurgent Jamal Lewis' strong running keeping defenses honest. I don't really care what their record is. If Anderson plays well and they lose there is no move to Quinn. If Anderson plays like he finished '07 and they go say 2-6 over the first half, we'll see Quinn. I think Anderson's leash is much longer than many here are giving him credit for. I think Cleveland made a major mistake resigning him vs moving him for a high draft pick or multiple draft picks this spring. His value was high, and his 2nd half puts his ability to improve on his '07 performance at risk. With that, I still think he holds ground and repeats, but with fewer 5 TD games and more steady production.
kutulu 1,677 Posted July 4, 2008 He's a 1 dollar keeper for me in a two player keeper/auction league. Looking to get someone like Garrard late and cheap as a 1.b QB. Also got R. Grant for a buck.
Wildman 0 Posted July 10, 2008 I keeping thinking about Dan Marino and Scott Mitchell here. I don't think he'll falter like Mitchell, but I think it will be hard for him to play at the same level he did last year.
49ers_suck 0 Posted July 10, 2008 stayin put, which would be a nice yr again. hopefully with less int's. i'm tired of hearing about pretty boy quinn. DA's got skills. skills enough to keep quinn on the bench. what up with quinn doing commercials? where's jim sorgi's commercial?

aderifield2 0 Posted July 12, 2008 This has been a big topic for a few of my geek sidekicks and I. Very few people agree with this statement, but here goes..."Derek Anderson will consistently be a top 5 QB for many years to come." I love where this team is headed. Outside of Jamal Lewis this is a pretty young offense. I still think they need some work in a few areas on defense, so they will be involved in a few shootouts. I don't see Quinn doing too much in his career, especially in Cleveland. If the Browns really liked him all that much, why did they pass on him with the 3rd pick? They could have never envisioned he would still be around later. They still drafted him when he was, because "why not," but I still don't think Derek Anderson will play his way out of the job. If anything I can see a Drew Brees/Philip Rivers situation coming on. If so, Derek will do well wherever he ends up. I like the guy, in case you can't tell yet. Patriotsfatboy1 1,432 Posted July 14, 2008 I think that DA, like the Browns, are early surprise favorites. They had a great season last year and snuck up on some people to post some good numbers/record. However, I think that the sneaking up is done. This team has some talent on the offense, but I think that Anderson is over-rated. I think that he comes back to Earth as the player that many thought he would be and the team disappoints. I put him in the stepping down category who will not live up to his ADP.
