Interesting trade proposal...

Non-ppr keeper league.

 

A guy wants to trade me Mendenhall for Laurence Maroney. Maroney is obviously the better back right now, but here's the thing. Maroney isn't keeper material. I drafted him far to high to keep him next year. Mendenhall on teh other hand would only cost me an 8th round pick next year and he might be a solid player going into next year.

 

 

Right now I could deal Maroney and not have to start Mendenhall if he doesn't pan out. I need to start 2 RB's 2 WR's and a flex. I will be starting Frank Gore, Marion Barber. At WR I'll start Fitzgerald and Tory Holt. My flex guy is either Chad Johnson, who may not play, Laurence Maroney or Roy Williams. Even if I deal Maroney I'd still be able to put Williams in at the flex. Problem is if I get injuries then I don't have the depth anymore that I normally had. I think my team is setup for a good run this year, but I want to try and build for next year as well.

 

 

What do you think guys, am I completely crazy for considering this trade?

I see why you are tempted but I personally would not go for this. Stick with Maroney. You have decent depth right now.

as a steeler fan, i love mendenhall as a potential keeper option, but you've got to try to win this year first.

 

obviously, you're set with gore and barber. do you have any other rb's on your roster? if mendenhall is your third option, you could be in trouble on bye weeks and in case of injuries. if he's your fourth option, you're in much better shape.

 

maybe you can postpone the deal for a week or two to see how the steelers play it this year?

If you have any other backup RBs I would lean towards doing the trade. Maroney is not reliable as a starter and if Willie Parker goes down Mendenhall will definitely get a lot of work. As a keeper, Mendenhall is worth much more than Maroney is or ever will be.

Thanks for the comments guys. I actually ended up talking the guy into taking Maurice Morris instead for Mendenhall. So now I've got Gore/Barber with Maroney, Chris Perry, Steve Slaton for my flex. Or playing a WR at flex like maybe Roy Williams or Chad Johnson, depending on the injury situation. I think I got a pretty good deal.
