Why does Detroit still get the Thanksgiving day game?

Recommended Posts

Translation: America voted for a "spread-the-wealth" give something-to-those-who-didn't-earn-it socialist so the NFL should do the same to Detroit's commitment to host the game after all these years.

Translation: I have been duped by the Republican Party into thinking that graduated tax plans, started and supported by Republicans, are 'socialism', and thus I'm going to continue to whine about the old white guy and crazy-as-fock great white hunter not getting the office.

As for the Thanksgiving games, people have already said it: when the NFL asked for two teams to make the Thanksgiving Day games official and annual, only two teams stepped up. They now enjoy the benefits from taking the risk back then.

It's unfortunate that the Titans, the world's most boring undefeated team, are on the platter for the Lions this year. It usually is fun to watch someone demolish the Lions each year. But the Titans...a bit boring.

I do the same thing, this is why The NFL Channel is trying to make Warner include it in its basic package. They want everyone to pay them all the time.

Yep. Freegin clowns. The NFL thinks its a little too important sometimes. Im glad TWC is telling them to stick it. There is NO reason for the NFL network to be a part of basic cable. Grandma and the other basic cable consumers are NOT interested in a channel like that and they would freak out(rightfully) if their rates went up to support the NFL. Just like we would all freak out if our rates went up after they forcefully added a channel about Soccer or some other stoopid sport. :pointstosky:

The NFL network, or ANY other specialty-programming network should be on a pay-tier so those that want it can pay for it and have it. Simple. Really.

And... what the fock is the NFL gonna do for the 7-8 month void there is between seasons? Interviews? Old game footage? More BS? Why the fock would anyone watch that crap anyways?

It's not just the NFL to blame, though. Broadcasting networks force cable companies to present channels in 'packages', meaning that you almost always have to pay for a lot of crap you don't want (the Soap Opera channel) to get the channels you do want (NFL).

If the cable and sat providers were allowed to offer channels piece-meal, we'd all be a lot happier. If a subscriber were allowed to pay for only those channels they wanted to watch, we wouldn't have to be complaining about this. So there's plenty of blame to go around.

As for the NFL network, I have it on Dish Network (it was added with no cost increase to the package I already had...they are a much better option than DirectTV), and I actually found myself watching a surprising amount of it over the offseason. Leading up to the draft, for instance, they had a ton of coverage. Sometimes it's cool to watch a condensed old game, too...classic playoff games without all the crap in between plays. Fun to watch, sometimes,, when you've got nothing else important to do.

You're right about the channel stuff. Still doesnt make me any happier though. Sunsabiches. It just seems natural for a specialty network to be on a premium tier.... I just dont get it. :overhead:

America voted for change this past election. I think we should start with Thanksgiving.

Actually the change America voted for will force the good teams to share their talent with the poor teams. Finally we will have true parody and Change We Need.

The NFL did 'fix' things on Thanksgiving. They added a game. Even though the Lions usually suck, leave it alone. It's still a tradition. I want my son to learn that laughing at the Lions is part of Thanksgiving. The pilgrims came here because the Lions weren't on t.v. in England on Thanksgiving day.
