kozmiq 70 Posted January 28, 2009 WTF are these things in my PC Directory? C:\Windows\system32\kernl32.dll C:\Windows\system32\wsock32.dll C:\Windows\system32\user32.dll C:\Windows\system32\shell32.dll C:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe Do I need to worry about why when I run a virus-scan, these things come up as a Change result? And since my credit card info was stolen, I'm getting over 100 Spam e-mails a day. Before, maybe 10.
MTSkiBum 1,626 Posted January 28, 2009 Those are standard windows files that all pc's have on them. You said you ran a virus scan and those are being changed, i assume that no virus is being found? If i was you, the first think i would do is go download adaware, and run that. Then run the virus software again. What virus software are you using?

I've run Norton and AVG anti-virus. When I ran the anti-virus about a month ago, two threats showed up but were fixed automaticly. Since then, no threats / no virus'. Still I gotta wonder why the result of these things are 'changed'. Every time. This is Vista and I've had it since Spring but the .exe has only been on it since 10/15/08. I'll try the adaware thing if I don't hear anything back from you. I've had adware probs on past PCs. Thanks again. Go Steelers!
MTSkiBum 1,626 Posted January 28, 2009 You are running vista(a resource hog), AVG(a huge resource hog), and Norton(not as bad as AVG, but still a resource hog), HOLY SH1T your computer must run slow as fock. I would uninstall AVG. There is really no point to having 2 antivirus softwares on your computer. I like AVG for a free antivirus software, but norton is better. I've had free AVG for years and it seems ok. The Norton came on the machine and even though it says it's expired, it still runs a virus-scan every 15 days. MTSkiBum 1,626 Posted January 28, 2009 Personally I would uninstall both AVG and Norton and use Avast... I use avast as well, but AVG isnt bad, it is all personal preference. I've had free AVG for years and it seems ok.The Norton came on the machine and even though it says it's expired, it still runs a virus-scan every 15 days. Uninstall norton then. If it is expired you arent getting the updates, so most likely you wont be protected from a virus attack anyways.

Computer came back on fairly quickly, too. Any idea why the .exe program just showed up in October when I've had the PC much longer? Anyway, thanks for all your help and time. Apprecitated. kozmiq 70 Posted January 28, 2009 I downloaded SUPERAnti Spyware and it found 10 threats. I quarantined them. So we'll see if it cuts down on my newly increased Spam-Mails.
DanXIII 8 Posted January 28, 2009 You might want to go get MalwareBytes Anti Malware. It detects things that many virus scanners miss. I've been dealing with a pretty severe browser hijack for the past several days now.
