SuperSteelers 1 Posted August 14, 2009 Hasn't been too impressive in camp. Actually I've heard a lot about the rookie Wallace and Shaun McDonald. Sweed is actually auditioning for the third receiver in Pittsburgh.

I'll take your word (hence your user name) But on paper for somebody looking in from Alabama....that's a solid start
jgcrawfish 232 Posted August 14, 2009 I'll take your word (hence your user name) But on paper for somebody looking in from Alabama....that's a solid start he dropped an easy one (again) down around the 20 later in the game from Dixon. He has been solid in camp and pretty much worked his way into the WR3 spot for the team. That being said, Mike Wallace is damned impressive. Great speed and better head for the game than Sweed. However, all things considered, the Steelers suddenly have a pretty deep WR roster with a good amount of young talent.
madd futher mucker 36 Posted August 14, 2009 But since the Steelers are not a pass-first offense, Sweed has almost no real fantasy value even if he were to be the clear-cut #3.
Belushi 9 Posted August 14, 2009 I actually like him as a sleeper. The Pitt running game hasn't done much the last couple of years, and Roeth did toss 30 TD's a couple of years ago. Ward isn't getting any younger but still plays a very physical game. Sweed might get a chance to start at some point. He showed last year that he could get open, he just couldn't catch anything. Maybe if his head is on right he'll emerge this year. He's probably got more value in dynasty leagues though.

But you bring up a good point, Hines is still the man for the Steelers, particularly in PPR leagues. When he's gone, I think Sweed will get a lot balls thrown his way. On another note, the Steelers may be absolutely lethal later this season when they go 4-wide. Sweed had a good game and would have had a great game had he not dropped the easy 3rd down conversion pass along the sideline. I was pretty impressed by Mike Wallace their rookie WR. In 4-wide you've got the possibility of the crafty Hines Ward (former SB MVP), the lightning quick Santonio Holmes (reigning SB MVP), the height/physicality of Limas Sweed (6'4"/220) and the sheer speed of Mike Wallace (2nd fastest combine time this year and rumored to have run a 4.21 at Ol Miss). If they don't get hit by injuries, this team may actually be better than last year. (knocking on wood)

This is by the deepest the Steelers have been at WR in quite some time. I've bumped Ben's stats up acordingly.

I've bumped Ben's stats up acordingly. I'm not sure that McDonald will even stick on the team. It's more than likely him and Dallas Baker vying for the last WR spot, and Baker has been in the system for a while and is a decent player. I still don't think Tomlin is gonna let Ben just start flinging the thing around, but throw in the huge targets of Heath Miller and Matt Spaeth and the Steelers have a LOT of targets weaponry.
