doggie62 0 Posted August 29, 2009 Hi all, My league changed over to a keeper league this year. One of the changes implemented was a cap of 10 waiver moves for the year . This was done in an effort to increase trading which has been an issue in the past. Personally - I enjoy working the WW and think it is part of the strategy of the game. Just looking to for you thoughts Roster is - QB, RB,RB, WR,WR,Flex,TE,K,IDP,IDP 8 bench Thanks for your input ! doggie
doggie62 0 Posted August 31, 2009 Bump - looking for some input. I think it will hurt teams with a bad draft as they will have no chance to improve through the ww. I also think it will limit trades because managers will have nothing to offer if they draft bad. I would like to get rule changed before stat of year and just looking to see if I am off base ?? thx
bugzy 1 Posted August 31, 2009 I've never heard of that rule before and I agree the waiver wire is such a big part of the game that limiting it like that makes the draft too important. I usual do about 20-30 waiver transactions per year. We charge for each one in our league, maybe suggest that as an alternative. I'm not sure that it will encourage trading. My experience is that trading doesn't happen because no one wants to propose a fair trade - they only want to do it if they rip someone off, and so no one trades. That and everyone falls in love with their players and won't part with them. Having less waiver transactions is not going to fix that.
pipeman 18 Posted August 31, 2009 Transaction fees are a good option. We pay $5 for every WW add/drop and trade, so it begins to sting a bit if your really active. All $ from transactions cover the honors payout- usually about $100 per position. Putting a cap on pick-ups can really hurt a team stung by injuries.
hdaddy 18 Posted August 31, 2009 I think fees in lieu of a cap is a ton better. With the potential for injuries and performance issues the waiver wire is a must and shouldn't be capped.
Cuse9 131 Posted August 31, 2009 Never cap free agents. The one thing you want more than anything is an active league. Limiting free agents hurts your league overall IMO. We play a sixteen week season. Ten FA's gives you two pick-ups for injury, 4 pick ups for players that look like they're gonna take off and four for players that simply aren't performing up to par. What happens if you have four or five guys that get hurt? You are forced to use five FA pick-ups because of injury while a guy that has one gets the luxury of using his how he wants. Injuries and underperforming are a part of the game we can't control. Limiting free agents to ten will force owners to make bad trades. If "Joe" needs a QB cause one is on a bye week and the other is hurt. He has two options. Use a FA or make a bad trade because he don't want to use too many of his free agents. My opinion has always been to let the owners run their team the way they want. They don't cap the amount of players a team can invite onto their team, why should we. I just think limiting free agents at all is bad, but ten, you will have owners lose interest and not pay as much attention. It won't help trades and it will create a non competitive team. I can understand limiting to 30. That is almost 2 per week, that is plenty. I've had guys use 50-60 in a season and had them use 2-3. To each his own. It's their team let them run it the way the want.
