Greatest Slayer Recording of Alltime

Recommended Posts

Please note I deliberately entitled this thread "recording" and not "song" as I wanted it to include any tune (regardless of authorship) that they may have recorded.

"Dissident Aggressor", South of Heaven gets my vote:

Though not a tune penned by Slayer, anytime a band can rock someone else's material better than they can, I give points for extra credit.

Also, this track showcases why Dave Lombardo was probably the greatest double kick drummer of all time. If you've never actually played double kick, please be aware that there is a certain physicality that is required to master the art, but to do so tastefully is where the true artistry lies.

Reign in Blood...the whole album. 29:03

A most worthy offering. If you could only keep one cut from that record? I would have to say (almost unequivocally) the first cut, "Angel of Death."

That opening riff is the first thing you hear on that album . . . it gets doubled by an extra layer of the same great riff, then the bass and drums gradually appear only to be capped off by the introductory scream . . . no intelligible lyrics for the first vocal you hear, just a relatively high-pitched scream that the listener could plausibly think is coming the Angel of Death himself . . . it's genius and pure rock 'n roll as well (without any artifice or trying).

You got me so excited I had to cue it up . . . . thanks!

Can't really argue with that selection, but also got to mention Raining Blood. I missed the show, but some friends of mine went to a Slayer concert several years ago where they performed the entire Reign in Blood album for the encore. Also, I haven't heard it yet, but I read their new song in available for streaming at the Slayer myspace page.

Not sure, but it might be the cover song "Ddamm" by Pap Smear clocking in at 1:01. I wouldn't pick a cover song myself, but whatever floats your boat. :dunno:

Non-cover song might be 'Darkness of Christ' (1:30) from the album God Hates Us All. :music_guitarred:

For short songs, I'd go with 'Necrophobic' from the aforementioned Reign in Blood. :music_guitarred:

I am pleased (and mildly surprised) to see we have had only one ignoramus wheigh in. Also, I like to believe he is a baiter and not truly ignorant of the greatness discussed thus far.
