Time to Start 'em and Sit 'em for Week 4!

Recommended Posts

Below is my team with projected Wk 4 starters in bold (have to start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 D):

QB: P Rivers, B Rothlisberger

RB: M Jones-Drew, R Brown, A Bradshaw, L Washington, L McCoy

WR: S Smith (bye), B Marshall, A Gonzales (out), K Walter, D Hester

TE: C Cooley, J Carlson

K: K Brown, L Tynes

D: CHI, NO

Now to the dilemas:

QB - On the surface, Rivers looks like the one. But on closer inspection, he's had one great game sandwiched in between two below avg ones (by our league rules), whie B-Roth has had 3 straight above avg games. So the question is, points ceiling (Rivers) or consistency (Roth)?

WR - I am going against the owner of Matt Schaub, hence the Walter selection against Oak (who should be blanketing AJ), and Hester because he'll be lining up against DET (most passing TDs allowed in '09)... yet I have a feeling Marshall will be breaking out soon.

Any thoughts pro or con would be greatly appreaciated.

:(

I wouldnt ever bench Rivers. He should throw 2 tds easily this week. Rothlisberger has proven to be inconsistent regardless of what he has done so far.

As for your receivers. I would start Marshall. He looks like he may be coming on. And did you see what Manningham and SSmith did to Dallas 2 weeks ago? Also go with Hester vs Det. Thats just a really good matchup. And he is probably the #1 receiver in Chitown.

I think your starting lineup right now looks about right.

It depends what you need. If you're a giant projected favorite, then consistency would be most important. If you're a huge underdog, go with the guy who has a bigger ceiling. That said, I think the start here is Rivers, and I don't think its close.

I'd rather start Marshall against the secondary in Dallas that gives up 6th most points to WR's. They turned Michael Clayton & Mario Manningham into studs. Walter does have a fairly good match up, since the #2 WR usually does fairly well against Oakland, however I'd rather have Marshall in my line up.

id go rivers slighty but you could flip a coin actually....and i wouldnt start marshall just yet ..we have yet to see kyle orton produce fantasy wise...and they keep running wr's (gaffney) in and out of the lineup every play...wait another week to see if marshall is for real

In my opinion, Big Ben's FFpts look bloated right now. I mean how many more weeks can you expect the guy to run into the end zone himself. I would have to let him prove his Quarterbacking ability before I could start him at that position

Rivers leads the league is passing yards right now, so they are going to keep letting him throw the ball. Also remember what San Diego did against Baltimore, another run-stuffing defense (like Pit), and Rivers threw for 436 yards and two scores.

As for WR's, I like your choices. Start Kevin Walter for sure. I live in Houston and we love this guy. But whose on the waiver wire? If either Mike Sims-Walker (JAX WR) or Nate Burleson (SEA WR) is, I'd take a shot with one of them, as they are both facing favorable matchups and have been very consistent.

your reasoning sounds good as far as the WR are concerned, i'm a marshall owner and reluctant to trade or sit him now as i think he's finally getting in the groove, but you can't pass up 10 passing TDs in 3 weeks against the Lions...and it is nice to have Walter as a big target in the RZ this week.

As far as the QBs go, i guess you have to ask yourself if you think you'll need the extra points that Rivers "could" offer. It might be the safer bet with Big Ben but with Rivers, i think he won't have that many more below average games, stay with him
