Look-Alike Players: Brandon Marshall vs. Calvin Johnson

It's time for another summer of Look-Alike Player threads...if you're new to the Board, every few days during the summer, I will try to post a thread that lists two players who are very close in value in redraft situations. Simply vote for the player you feel should be drafted first and then add comments about your selection if you would like.

 

This is non-PPR for Look-Alike matchups that involve RBs, WRs, or TEs. Just standard point for every 10 yards and 6 for TDs.

 

Our 4th Look-Alike player matchup of the summer is: Brandon Marshall vs. Calvin Johnson

Steve Smith (Carolina) over Steve Smith (NYG), 20-10.

Brandon Jacobs over Felix Jones, 11-7.

its still the Lions and even though this is non PPR, i will still vote for Brandon Marshall.

 

in PPR this is an easier choice in Marshalls favor.

Oooo... tough one. I think Calvin wins the vote here but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Marshall finishes ahead of Calvin on the season. Calvin's advantage is that he's had more time with his QB, although really, it wasn't much. And which QB is better? Henne or Stafford? I smell a possible future Look-Alike topic right there.

 

Marshall has produced more than Calvin and we can certainly say last year it wasn't with the best QB in the world. Miami has a better overall team than Detroit, but it is hard to say whether that is an advantage or not to Marshall. Calvin may get more garbage points. Marshall may do great in play-action. Marshall may not be targeted as much. The team dynamics might make Marshall an overall safer play than relying on the Lions to get the ball to CJ.

 

I'm going to go with Marshall. I'm not sure I would draft either guy very often where they are typically being drafted, but given the gaudy reception totals the past few years I'll lean to the Henne-Marshall connection.
