listen2me 23 1,978 Posted June 18, 2011 Chad Griggs vs Valentijn Overeem - Othereem is basically a can, or at least average at best. Griggs has power, Griggs swings wildly and connects. Pick: Griggs 1st round KO. Danial Cormier vs. Jeff Monson - Monson is a solid fighter, but 40 years old and has back issues. Cormier is a wrestling legend. Just a bad matchup for Monson, needs a submission off his back here. Pick: Cormier UD. KJ Noons vs. Jorge Masvidal - Noons has great hands. Depends where Masvidal tries to fight. If he looks to stand he will get outpointed. If he makes it a ugly fight he could get a decision. I think Noons is just better, but close fight. Pick: Noons UD. Josh Barnett vs. Brett Rogers - Barnett is one of the better HWs of all time and he is still good. Rogers is a former Sam's Club tire changer. He was hyped over KOing Arlovski and having a good start vs. Fedor. Either way he is overrated. Way overrated. Barnett can do whatever he pleases. Only thing Rogers has is natural power. Pick: Barnett 2nd round TKO. Alistair Overeem vs. Fabricio Werdum - Werdum won their last fight, that was when Overeem was 40 lbs lighter. Werdum needs to get it to teh ground, but I doubt he can. His best chance is a TD from the clinch, and that is where Overeem does his best work. Werdum is a quality HW, top 5 in the world. But Overeem is just too strong and has the best stand up of any HW in MMA. He also is capable on the ground. Pick: Overeem 1st round KO. Overeem/Barnett/Cormier parlay : 100 to win 110. tubby_mcgee 702 Posted June 20, 2011 Overattedeem vs. Werdum I actually thought Werdum won rounds 1 and 3. He landed more punches, and better combinations. He tried pulling guard a number of times, and....lol...on their "punchstat" figures at the end, they counted those as takedowns for Overeem. I have a real hard time seeing that two judges gave Overeem the fight 30-27. The announcers (at least on of them) in Strikeforce stink. In the first televised fight, one guy hit a lateral drop. During the highlights, the announcer goes "as he was falling back, he knew how to twist" and then referred to it as a high level move. lol. And the dude on the bottom took about 25 unanswered, unprotected punches, and the ref stopped it and the announcer says loudly (in a WWE type fashion) "Now wait just a minute....." and was ready to call BS, when the slightly better announcer (Frank Shamrock), says "He wasn't defending himself" ---just in time to save the other announcer from making an even bigger ass of himself. Now, all this being said....Overeem might have his hands full vs. Barnett, depending on how Barnett tries to fight him. And it may never happen....but Cain Velasquez would beat Deca out of Overeem on their feet, and take him down and rape him on the ground if he didn't like the way things were going on his feet. Overeem looked to have some decent sprawls vs. Werdum...but Cain would set his takedowns up sooooooo much better and put Overeem on the ground. And...Overeem's cardio was garbage last night. Anyone with that muscle mass has poor cardio. It might be decent cardio for their size, but overall, meh. Cain has the best cardio of any ranked HW in any major mma orgainization, by far. His build isn't freakish by any means, but his build is condusive to the best cardio a 245 lb HW could have.
rholio 340 Posted June 20, 2011 Werdum is a quality HW, top 5 in the world. Seriously? I have trouble seeing him as top 10, let alone top 5... Cain Velasquez Junior Dos Santos Brock Lesnar Shane Carwin Frank Mir Alistair Overeem Antonio Silva Fedor Emelianenko Then I would consider Werdum, maybe. I'd like to see him fight Barnett, or Big Country, or even Big Nog before ranking him even that high. I've seen him look impressive exactly once, getting the submission on Fedor.
