Cool Website

Recommended Posts

I don't know if I'm allowed to talk about other websites here or not, but I'm sure that if I'm not, someone will delete this thread for me.

Maybe it will help if I don't mention the name of the site in the thread, but I found this cool site last week where they run one-week salary cap leagues for money. You set your lineup--1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 1K, 1DST--choosing any players you want as long as you stay under the salary cap (they have "beginner" leagues with a cap of $65 mil, "regular" leagues with a cap of $60 mil, and "expert" leagues with a cap of $55 mil), and then enter your lineup (or lineups, if you prefer multiple entries) into various leagues that cost anywhere from $1 up to hundreds. They have head-to-head leagues where you play against just one other person, 5-team leagues, 10-team leagues, 50-team leagues, and big tournament leagues with thousands of entries.

Last week I put in $10 just to see what it was like, and I entered one $5 5-team league and one $5 10-team league, with the following lineup in each:

Andy Dalton

Ryan Mathews

Daniel Thomas

Andre Johnson

Calvin Johnson

AJ Green

Fred Davis

Olindo Mare

Arizona DST

Obviously three of my players pretty much laid an egg, but that was still good for 2nd place in the 5-team league and 1st place in the 10-team league--so the competition isn't all that fierce--and I got $45 back on my $10 investment!

Needless to say, I'm going to be playing a few more games this week.

If you are interested, PM me, and I'll tell you the name of the site. You can deposit and cash out using PayPal, and as a game of skill, they have a specific exemption to the law that has been closing down all the online gambling/poker sites lately.

Maybe we can even organize an "Axe Elf Challenge" league every week or something--my favorite color is green!

Sounds like fun.

I'm a big Scrabble player and a few years back I played on a site with a similar set-up. Players could deposit money and play against other player in money games that were similar to a scrabble. I initially deposited $10 and pretty much played all year with my account fluxuating up and down. Same kid of deal, game of skill not gambling.

I think I took money out of the site once, but at the end of the year I got a tax form indicating that I had "won" like $4000.00. It was treated the same as casino winnings. They counted everything I won and nothing that I lost, so they weren't keeping a real running total.

Didn't make a huge difference, but be aware that that might happen.

The wife was a little pissed.

You did keep a record of your losses and use them to offset your winnings, right? Kind of why, after you hit a long shot at the track, you spend the next 30 minutes combing the ground for losing tickets everyone else has thrown away.

Like I said, I don't know if posting it here will get the thread deleted or not, but if so I guess I can repost without naming the site again.

It's fanduel.com.

If you want to do us both a favor, you can use the link below to show that I referred you, sign up, make a deposit, and we both get a free $10.

I looked at their FAQs about the winnings being taxable. It says that for withdrawals over $600, they require a valid mailing address and social security number to file the appropriate tax forms--so it sounds like if you play small, or at least don't withdraw more than $600 at a time--you won't have to worry about taxes.

Thanks!

After you create an account, go to the "My Account" tab, and it should show you a link like the one I used, that you can give to your friends to sign up as your referrals.

I'm in too. Another $10 in your account, plus $15 for me ($10 from Axe Elf and $5 sign up bonus).

Looks like a cool site. You better not be scamming us, Axe

Only if you join the same leagues as me...

Don't think I can just run off with the bonus money, though. The sign-up bonuses and referral bonuses are added to your account as a "pending bonus" and they release as a percentage of the leagues you enter. I think for the $5 leagues I was joining last week, it released $0.20 for each one out of my original $5 sign up bonus. So it will take a while to release all of the referral bonuses y'all are earning for me--but if I keep winning, I'm sure I'll get there eventually.

Thanx again!

You have any strategy? I started by finding cheap defense and kicker then scoured the qbs for a nice value (went with jason campbell this week) and then spent the bulk of my budget on rb and wr.

Yeah, that's not bad, but you'll notice that most of the Ds and Ks are almost all in the $5000 to $6000 range--so there's not a lot of "value" to be mined there; you can just about choose whichever ones you want and still have a little wiggle room if the rest of your roster is just $200 to $600 over or something.

There is considerable range at the QB and TE positions, so finding good sleepers there can definitely help your ability to buy studs at RB and WR--but finding some reasonably-priced players who you think will break out this week at ALL the skill positions is the overall key to success. In a sense, the contest is about your ability to pick sleepers.

Since there seems to be some interest in this, and since there seem to be some who want to challenge my ability to pick sleepers, I have just created a private league called the "Axe Elf Challenge."

It's a 12 team regular ($60 mil cap) league, with a $5 entry fee; top 3 teams get paid ($27, $16, $11). First come, first served until the league fills up. (If I don't get 12 entries by gametime tomorrow, the league will not run, and all entry fees will be refunded.)

If you're interested, use this link to create an account (if you don't already have one):

And then use this link to join the Axe Elf Challenge:

I'm half tempted to post my lineup here too, just to go all Billy Jack on y'all...

("I'm gonna take THIS foot, and whop you on THAT side of your face with it, and there's not a damn thing you're gonna be able to do about it...")

But there are some limits to my cockiness. Maybe if I take first place this week, I'll go Billy Jack on y'all NEXT week.

See you there!

The Axe Elf Challenge is full, but I'm bumping this thread in case any late-comers want to do any last-minute Sunday morning drafting.
