How does Yahoo determine playoff matchings?

Recommended Posts

I found this write up:

Again this doesn't matter it just seemed counter intuitive to me:

'Six Team Playoff with Four or fewer Team Consolation: First Week

P1: #1 seed vs. bye (no game)

P2: #4 seed vs. #5 seed

P3: #3 seed vs. #6 seed

P4: #2 seed vs. bye (no game)

C1: #7 seed vs. #10 seed

C2: #8 seed vs. #9 seed

Second Week

P5: #1 seed vs. Winner P2

P6: #2 seed vs. Winner P3

Fifth Place: Loser P2 vs. Loser P3

Seventh Place: Winner C1 vs. Winner C2

Ninth Place: Loser C1 vs. Loser C2'

I'm the 4th seed and I was expecting the 2 seed.

Shouldn't it normally be 1 vs 6 and 2 vs 4 ??

Any idea why this would be?

my league is the same way...i believe its because there are 6 playoff teams so the sum of each part to face seeds 1 and 2 has to equal 9.

seeds 6 and 3 played and then seeds 5 and 4...or else one of the 1 or 2 seeds would have an advantage...

i wondered the same thing at first too.

We have the same thing...

The bracket is fixed so the #1 seed always plays the winner of 4-5. and the #2 seed always plays the winner of 3-6.

If the favorites win out, then it's fair... But yeah it stinks when the #2 seed gets a weak matchup and the #1 seed has a tough one..

The scenarios you are all listing above used to be the only option in Yahoo. This year they introduced a new feature called "playoff reseeding". If you selected "YES" during the league set-up the #1 seed would play the lowest remaining seed and the #2 seed the highest (assuming it's a 6 team playoff).

IE... if 3 and 6 play and 6 beats 3... the #1 seed would play 6. If 3 beat 6, then the #2 seed would play 3 and the #1 seed would play winner of 4/5.

If you select "scoring and settings" on the league home page, you should see something like this.

Playoffs: Week 14, 15 and 16 (6 teams) Note: Week 16 runs 7 days from Dec 20 to Dec 26

Playoff Reseeding: Yes/No
