Comparing 3 QB's

QB 2 has the highest yards per attempt, highest QB rating, most yards per game, and least amount of INT's.

QB 2 is Joe Flacco, QB 1 is Eli Manning's first 4 years as a full time starter, and QB 3 is Drew Brees first 4 years as a full time starter. Both Eli and Drew got to sit for a season though, so they have a year more of nfl experience when comparing these numbers.

In the 5th year as a starter both Eli manning and Drew brees threw for over 4,000 yards.

I think that Joe Flacco is a great QB 2 to draft for fantasy. He has a high ceiling and floor, and he is really cheap in both redraft and dynasty leagues. He has other things going in his favor as well, both his defense and the steelers defense are aging which will lead to more shootouts, he is both durable and plays behind a good offensive line, and he has a WR in Torrey smith that looks like he can break out and be a true #1 WR.

I don't love Flacco for fantasy football. He absolutely has the potential to finally take that next step, but the guy has yet to top 3,700 passing yards or 25 scores. He's just hovering around that "OK" level, and it's hard to trust too much into him.

Factor in that Baltimore runs a ton and plays a controlled scheme while relying on their defense at times, and I can't do it. There are way too many options at quarterback this year that I'd prefer over Flacco's "potential".

Good stuff, I looked at his numbers last year and noticed how every year he got better. I don't know what last year's regression can be attributed to, but I think he would benefit from a better offensive scheme to get him over the hump.

I've drafted Flacco twice in the last three years as a QB2. Nothing but pedestrian numbers from him. All the tools to take it to the next level, but not the scheme or the fit to do it.

This.

He's like Alex Smith, plenty of weapons but not in the proper scheme that equates to great fantasy stats. But in the original posters defense, he did describe Flacco as a QB2. Nothing more than a bye week/injury fill-in unless you play in a 16 team league.

I know what Flacco has done in the past, his career is very similar to Drew Brees' and Eli Manning's.

Flacco is nothing like Alex Smith. It took Alex Smtih 7 years to throw for 3000 yards, and Alex Smith is yet to throw for even 20 TD's in a season.

Is the Ravens success as a team limiting Flacco's fantasy success?

A team that is good at running and usually playing in front with a good defense didn't really need their qb to be slinging the ball all over the place and you saw especially conservative passing numbers from Flacco at the tail end of last year.

In the first 3 games of the season he threw for 7 tds. He also had 4 300 yards games in the first half of the season and none in the second half.

I believe he has the skills and players around him to put up better stats, as seen most recently in his playoff game against New England, but will the Ravens be forced to have Flacco airing it out?

Ravens homers chime in.

He's like Alex Smith based on their offensive schemes. Dominant defense & strong running game predicated on controlling time of possession. Their OC's don't want them to be slinging the football around but rather keep the opposing offense off the field.

Not to mention, Cam Cameron has done wonders for Flacco's progression. Smith has had how many coaching/coordinator changes since he's been there? The 49er's have never provided Smith a stable environment to flourish in.

The problem Flacco continues to face is that he does not have a premier receiver. Manning had Nicks, Smith, and Manningham in his 5th season, Brees had Colston, Horn, and a lot of help from Reggie Bush. In order for Flacco to grow the same way the other two did, he is going to need a big time go-to receiver. Torrey Smith has a ton of potential, but does anyone really believe he can be a top ten receiver in the NFL?

I think Torrey Smith has great upside and expect him to make a decent jump in year 2. He played well at seasons end and expect better things this year.
