I've never liked that guilt by association argument. Sure the #2, #3, and #4 guys were caught cheating, but why wasn't Lance? Maybe it was because these cheaters were actually the #12, #29, and #36 guys who jumped up in the standings but never caught Lance. For all we know, #5, #6, and #7, were actually #2, #3, and #4.

The problem is nos. 5-7 were also doping. there was a great chart in Bicycling magazine a few years ago that looked at the top 10 finishers during his 7 wins. Only a handful of the 70 hadn't been implicated in PED use.
