It seems that Dallas may be closing in a resolution of some sort. Today, the initial news was this:

 

IRVING, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys informed the agent for Dez Bryant that they will place the franchise tag on the All-Pro wide receiver by Monday's deadline, executive vice president Stephen Jones confirmed Saturday.

The Cowboys have to notify the league of the move by 4 p.m. ET Monday, which will guarantee Bryant roughly $13 million in 2015. The Cowboys will not use the exclusive franchise tag on Bryant, but a team would have to give up two first-round picks if Dallas chooses not to match an offer sheet.

The decision to apply the franchise tag to Dez Bryant comes as no surprise. The Cowboys have been leaning in this direction for some time.

 

But it has repercussions for DeMarco Murray.

 

The NFL’s leading rusher is now free to hit the open market in 11 days. The Cowboys want him back. Murray has indicated he’d like to stay. But he’ll be able to test the market.

 

Do the Cowboys have an agreement with Murray that before he accepts another offer he’ll give the Cowboys a chance to match?

 

“I wouldn’t say there’s any agreement,’’ said Stephen Jones, the Cowboys chief operating officer. “You hope so, but there are no guarantees.
