What did you guys think of the draft? That's the largest starting lineup I've ever drafted. I thought it would be unsettling to go through 6 rounds and still have 9+ starters left to pick but it wasn't too bad.

I think Sweetleaf made out pretty well on our trade, getting Dillon with the extra pick and Harrison with his 2nd rounder. I like my first 4 rounds, though: Faulk, Garner, Mason, Dunn, Coles. I was surprised Garner fell that far. I considered KJones or Wheatley instead of DMase but I could pass up Mason! Other than that I was most glad to see Heap in the 5th, and a little disappointed with (but still optimistic about) what got left to me at QB. 12th round is pretty darn late to pick a QB though so I should have known.

The defenses all seem kind of even to me. I guess we will see how that pans out. I guess the question is how late people got their defenders. Prozac's defensive first pick was Sean Taylor in the 10th! :o I already had 4 by then. So if he outscores me on D this year then I got schooled bigtime. But, I don't see it happening.

I think the top RB duo is Thai Cradle Robbers with Edge and Henry, or MeanRussianMachine with AGreen and SDavis.

Maybe I did reach a bit for Gordon but I do believe he will put up fairly good numbers after he gets the hang of the offense. He has decent skills and he's got good speed. I can see him approaching 1100-1200 total yards and 7 td's. And by the way, I drafted him at the end of the fourth rd...Culpepper was my 3rd rd pick.

Other than that I'm fairly happy with my team. Only two of my players got jacked right before I picked, Peterson and Andre Johnson, so I guess that isnt too bad. Overall I think the league looks pretty even...no one team really stands out in my mind.

Great job everyone.

Oops yeah, Gordon was 4.10 not 3.03 Anyway the poll is not about what player was a reach but just who is a weak starting player. You yourself expressed dismay at settling for Lamar as your #2 RB! But you did get Culpepper and Holt so it wasn't for naught.

I think a lot of people wanted Andre Johnson this year. Tom Brady was the biggest one that got robbed right before me, as Prozac's 2nd QB no less. It seemed at the time I picked Garner that I stole that one from him though? I wasn't sure if his reaction had to do with who I picked or the fact that I picked at the last second. He's ok with Griffin though.

One reason I think the league looks pretty even is there are so many friggin starters it's a real chore to go through and really evaluate a bunch of teams!

It was tough between Booger/Munchie. I specifically posted a thread concerning the IDPs and Booger STILL doesnt draft enough IDPs

The ONE thing that pissed me off was that Brian Dawkins pick(thanks Zap), because i was going to grab a 4th WR (kennison), but Zap  drafted Dawkins! Than 3-4 picks later, Kennison gets drafted, along with some other decent WRs  Than i was targeting Kolbert and Watts, but i wasnt expecting them to go THAT early....whatever

That Cato June pick was out of frusturation :P i wasnt planning on taking him THAT early, but o well, i love my defense :D

Zap, did you catch my "DD" of 2004 pick :D

ETA: Yah, I was stumped on who to pick between Andre & Chambers. After i took Chambers, i realized i should have went with Andre Johnson, but since Mia just signed Lamar, Chambers stock went up in my books.

I'm too tired to evaluate anything. I had about two hours of work to do after manually entering 12 25 man teams... 300 seek and clicks on that damned thing... then mortgage processing before I could sleep. I got to bed at 4 am. It's now 8am and I've been in my office for an hour.

My personal draft regrets are few. I wanted Q this year as my #3 just in case. So, I would not have taken Garner there. I would have loved Dunn next. I really wanted Nick Barnett, and... oh well. I'll be all over the IDP availability the first few weeks. And Brandon Lloyd. I couldn't believe he went in the 6th. I almost took him before drafting Rod Smith, but I felt if Griffin fell to me at 3.09 with our massive RB run, then Lloyd would probably make it to me... and Diesel has him. I really don't want to play without Brandon Lloyd on my team, so I a quit.

I am pleased with my draft, and actually consider Branch to be a very high value at where I took him, though I still voted for myself in the poll

The players you queued may have ran a little too deep at DL, but I couldn't stop it to go to your list. When it ran it's course, then I went to the list, and it went pretty good. But I was a bit frazzled near the end. You did get a good core before leavinbg though... and thanks for the long queue, btw. It helped.

I choked on Andre Johnson also but for zman. At the second turn he should have had Jimmy Smith then Andre. The consensus ranking go Smith Andre Javon. I overlooked Andre for Javon. It was an oversight and Andre went with the very next pick. As soon as FF Aff took him... I went back to the consensus and .... DOH! Oh well, Z does have a very good team, and I hope Walker and AJ are very even... but I have my doubts. He should have been there to draft his own team though... so no whining allowed.

Nick Barnett,

Brandon Lloyd.

Oh yeah, and Eric Parker. I spent alot of time on the mange board this preseason, mostly because I was writing articles for Mike. I personally take credit for creating a big rise in the rankings/hypings of two players.

One is Ahman Green. In early July, he was highly regarded, but after I was done with him, I kept seeing all these posts where people had him above LT and Priest.

And Eric Parker. I started hyping him a little because Dyson was being drafted so regularly, and being in SD, I saw the writing on the wall. I would like to have Parker. I knew I had no shot at Green unless FF Aff made the late picks trade. And Green started falling in my rankings after I overhyped him.

I'm off to scour for IDPs. Napolean Harris is not fully recovered, and I knew Howard had a booboo, but it sounds worse than reported now. I need a DL, and I am not dropping...

Mewelde Moore! This year's Domanick Davis.

Oh and Calico too. Man, I didn't get the receivers that I thought would be easy to get in an IDP league.

And vlade. I voted for BJohnson, only because you started this thread.

Glad to see we finaly have a draft commentary thread...I'm starved for analysis!

I can't decide whether or not I'm happy with my draft. I was expecting (hoping  ) to get Edge at number seven, and when he went I felt pretty much olbligated to go with Portis. Brown was who I was targeting in Rd 2, so I was pleased to get him. Overall I'm happy with my first 2 rounds.

I have no idea whether or not Lewis in Rd 3 was a good pick or not. I was praying I wasn't going to be forced to make a decision about him...good pick???

Usually I wait to draft my IDPs and my QBs, so I went against my usual philosophy a bit picking Hasselbeck early, but at 6 pts for all TDs it was a gamble I was willing to take.

Unfortunately all this left me with a veritable crap pile at WR. Hopefully Parker is as good as I think he will be (and somebody can consistently get him the ball), and somebody has to emerge out of Denver...and I hope it happens sooner rather than later.

I'm pretty happy with the rest of my IDPs, although I would have liked to get another top LB. Unfortunately I found myself playing catch up after taking Hasselbeck and Lewis so early :shocking:

But, overall, I think I should be competitive. :shocking:

PS: I voted for myself in the poll...Lelie as my #3 is scary...

Yah, i thought some of the WRs would of lasted a little longer too, considering this is an IDP league. I was targeting Watts, Rice (i was so close to hitting "draft this player"), and Kolbert. Once they flew off the board, it was a crapshoot for WRs left.

Im happy with my Bradford WW pickup :pointstosky: luckly, he went unfrafted, because he was on my sleeper list. I was burned my Andre Johnson last year, thats why i was so hesitant about him. If Andre sees alot of double teams, i think Bradford could put up decent #3 WR numbers. All it takes is that one big play, sometyhing hes known for.

As for Chambers, before the mess in Mia started, i was REALLY high on him. Than along came Gordon, a back who i used as my #2 RB last year :D. He put up some decent #s, so Chambers got the edge there.

As for Rogers, it was either him or Moulds, and being a HUGE Lion fan, i had to go with my boy Charles Rogers. Plus the fact that Buff wants to run more and Bledsoe looks like turd, made the pick even more easier :D

Im just a little thin at WR and would like another DL. Anyone looking for a LB, hit me up.

i thought Mark Fields was a DL, not a SLB

booger men

quality dbs and dls are a dime a dozen. i was drafting on the fly and had no list for them so i saved some work for later.

zap thank you for covering for me, you picked these players for me:

1 priest - had him prepicked but the settings were wrong.

2 t jones - i missed this pick by 5 minutes. rb2 is a crap shoot anyway, had to gamble on one. now if he fails i can blame zap. backed him up.

3 chad johnson - him or ward, well done.

4 jimmy smith - had another prepicked and set to go at the end of my clock but god stepped in. had a couple of guys higher, but who knows? he is fine.

5 javon walker - had him prepicked.

the rest of my draft was flawless.

shall we throw in some ...

No... blame me if Andre Johnson outperforms Javon Walker by any significant amount. Blame the mighty staff of FFToday if TJones suxors. That pick was right off the staff consensus projections.

I can't speak for anyone else, but after last year I realized you can't mess around with WRs when you have to start 3 each week. My WR corps was a mess, and when one or two of my guys didn't have the seasons expected of them (which WRs often do) I lost tons of points at WR week in and week out. That said, the guys that I hoped would fall to a position where I was comfortable drafting them, did. I had Driver, Givens, and Gardner all ranked between 24 and 29, and was happy to get them in the 11th, 15th, and 20th rounds, getting 4 starting IDP and everything else but a QB before grabbing these guys as backup WRs.

I'm real high on Lewis, I kept him as my 5th keeper in my other league, trading away Hasselbeck and Griffin for picks to do so. I don't think he'll score quite as many points as last year (when he had 6 INTs) but if he does, he'll be a steal in the mid-3rd round! I was hoping to take him in the late 3rd or early 4th with one of those 4 picks I had there if he were still available, he was actually one of the reasons I made the trade for extra picks with Sweetleaf. :pointstosky:

Hasselbeck I think you're less likely to be happy with, considering what you're left with at WR. But we'll see. If you want to trade me Duckett for a WR I am all ears.

It's true, and the funny thing is I'm only right about the player I  about half the time. Last year I didn't want to play unless I had Roy Williams. I traded his arse later... for a pretty good receiver. :D

What was that you were saying about your receivers last year? I had crap for receivers last year and won, so I can't say I agree with any over emphasis on the position. I had all three Cowboy receivers rostered last year, CJ (who I traded away), Charles Rogers (who treated a broken clavicle like a decapitation), and started chumps like Jabbar Gaffney and Jerome Pathon on my way to the title. And thanks for Boldin he helped alot.

I have Rod Smith, Donte Stallworth, and Keyshawn. Not very sexy. I'm backing that feasome threesome up with Rice, Booker, and Ferguson. Looking forward to working a trade with you down the road again.

Fair enough. Your receivers may have been chumps last year but I bet you scored more WR points than I did anyway. And your D, TE (even though Sharpe was a huge steal for me), and RBs (even though Ricky and Stephen were a good combo) were superior to mine. Jerry Rice, who I thought was a steal in the 6th (?) round, was awful. Amani Toomer was a bust with my team's third pick in the 4th round. I can't even remember who my #3 WR was supposed to be, all I remember is starting the wrong guy every week, which half the time meant watching Boldin and/or Wayne score tons of points on the bench, and the other half of the time meant starting Boldin and/or Wayne but still getting crap from my WRs. You at least had a bona-fide stud with CJ for quite awhile, he probably outscored the 2nd and 3rd highest-scoring WR in my lineup combined more often than not.

This year (unless Coles' has an even bleaker season than some fear with toe/Brunell concerns) I should have a really reliable starting 2 that I can start each week without regret, and guys I believe in more at the 3-6 spots to be that last starter. That's the plan anyway. I'm somewhat nervous about Laveraneus and Fitz but really stoked about Mason.

Looking forward to working a trade with you down the road again.

Who the fuck trades Anquan Boldin, anyway???!!!

Seriously. Looking at our rosters, I think there is a deal in there somewhere. Rod Smith, Ferguson, (Booker but you have Chambers already so nevermind), and Rice are all on the block and each valued a little differently. You know I want Lloyd, and I also like some of your IDP depth... Hamlin, Dawkins, Fields.

Check it out.

I knew you wanted him and saw you were really REALLY thin at DB and the only "sleeper" left was Hamlin. I knew he wouldnt make it back to me, so i pulled the trigger, hoping to ruffle your feathers

ETA: I like your Tom Brady Pick. If he made it back to me in the 8th, i was going to grab him, but i just couldnt take him before Green, who didnt throw an INT in preseason. The -3 for ints is KILLER, so that played into my taking of Green.

Yeah, pretty stoked with my squad. Much happier with my QB and WR's than I was last year. Only have four backs on my roster though, but I'm liking what I do have as back-ups. Waited on D this time around...we'll see how it pans out only having only one true stud in that department.

of course I am happy with LT2. The Owens/McNabb hook up was ot part of my plan, but how could a HOMER like me past that one up? Barber is okay...I'd rather have Thomas Jones if anyone wants to trade him... My defense is not special, but I like what they can do with consistency. My kicker sucks,,,,LOL And my depth at RB will help I hope throughout the season. I got the afore mentioned Andre Johnson and I think Gage was a steal....Winslow was a toss up with Shockey, but I already had a Giant i don't like...so he will do hopefully. All in all, I really like my team? What do you guys think?
