I have not watched a superhero movie since spiderman in 02

the problem with the movies/hollywood/theaters is that they have to make a movie for "everyone"... a product that aims for the center of the bell curve and generates the most interest.

And that approach toproducts/content/services is dead... there is no "middle of the bell curve" anymore.

If you are for everybody, you are for nobody.

Choice is nearly endless and offerings are niche and specific.

I agree. Those movies are out there but youre usually looking at indie or foreign films if you want something different.

Yeah, I watch a lot of foreign movies. Chinese and Bollywood mostly. They are ok. But they have their limitations. Namely they are in another focking language.

And both have a lot of cultural cliches that are stupid to western eyes. Kind of like boy gets the girl in the end is a standard thing in American movies, in Asian movies, its always a forbidden love against their parents wishes, and they either tearfully obey and live miserable lives, or they kill themselves or something.

And the special effects and action generally suck. Although China has raised their game in that regard.

They dont have to do that. They never did before.

Yeah, the huge summer blockbusters have to have broad appeal, because they cost sh!tloads to make.

But most genres dont cost nearly as much, and can be more limited in scope.

I remember I used to always have a couple of movies I wanted to see playing. Now? I hardly ever see anything coming out I give a fock to see. There is simply zero creativity. Hell, even what they do make is mostly bad retellings of books (LOTR, Harry Potter, hunger games, etc.) or comic books, or even video games for focks sake.

Meanwhile, tv doesnt seem to have that problem. They are making insanely expensive shows, and killing it. Why can they pull off what Hollywood cant?

let's take GoT.

It wasn't that expensive to begin with for HBO... they mad the show specifically for the niche fan... and it spreads from there... the "core" community becomes a force of advocacy for the show and news/interest travels - viral - and before you know it, 50 year old housewives are watching it too.

And once it's gone "viral" the big budget opens up.

Can't do that with a movie. Gotta get the mass audience in first somehow to afford the big budget.
