BREAKING: US natural gas prices extend gains to +40% on the day, now on track for one of the largest daily gains in history.

Natural gas prices are now up +240% since January 16th.

That's like gas prices rising from $3.00/gallon to $7.20/gallon in 5 trading days.

Commodities are on fire

If those prices hold, people are going to be in for one hell of a surprise when they see their bills next month.

I recall something similar happening during the winter of 2008-2009 (the winter that Oil shot up to $150 a barrel and other commodities like NG followed suit

Being from progressive Minnesota, I know utility companies are required to work with people who can't pay their bills.

Translation: Those who 'can' will pick up the tab

That's why I call this rally in NG BS!

The United States is to natural gas, what the Middle East is to oil.

The skyrocketing price isn't because there's a shortage, it's only because of this giant ridge of high pressure from Siberia that's making it bitterly cold throughout the country & increasing usage.

Yep, gold as well, but silver is crazy.

It's almost beyond belief. When I was buying silver coins in 2017, the price of silver was between $15 and $20

I noticed that the most recent high was around $40 in 2008 or 2009

At the time I thought if it ever got back up to $40, I'd be happy with my Investment.

People arent paying these spot prices on their natural gas utility bill.  Some of high prices make their way to you and i indirectly, but the price you pay for natgas used in your house doesnt swing with market swings like the gasoline you put in your car does with oil swings.

It's possible things have changed since then, but my bill jumped dramatically when NG spiked back in 2009. Up until that winter, I never had a NG bill as high as $100, & it was up to $150 the following month. Around $180 a month after that. They even had an article in the local paper. Those that lived in older less efficient homes, whose bill might be around $150 in a bitter cold month, were up to $400 in some cases.

Google absolutely demolished quarterly numbers after the close Wednesday & went down today.

Markets can be fickle, but the cream always rises to the top.

There is nothing brave about saying something stupid, which is exactly what a prediction is, especially with a deranged psycho as president who can do something insanely stupid at any moment.

I can only tell you that I switched from growth to value and dividend paying equities last week.  So far looks good.

I told my fidelity guy my goals and what do you know, he did the same thing. Told me in October they felt there was a high likelihood of a recession in the coming year, but he also said they felt the same the last 5 years.

I put some cash in, a decent amount on Jan 22.  Did it to cover my 401K position because I was moving it from Ascensus, who Vanguard sold it to.  My luck, I got busy at work and failed to make the sale/withdrawal.  So in essence I just put a crap ton in all at once just in time for this turbulence.  Now there's no way I'm doing the transfer to be in cash for a few days and essentially lock in losses.  I've always regretted it anytime I ever sold mutual funds anyway so just gonna ride it out from here however long that takes.  I have some dry powder I can put to work if it deepens.  I needed to be more equity invested anyway.

Ron is by far the biggest clown in here lol.  Always claiming he made the correct move after the fact but conveniently never posting what he does ahead of time.  Oh, except the one time he admitted to going all cash last year in the tariff tantrum and then lied and said he never did.

He justs roots for the market to go down because he has TDS and it is like clockwork him posting on bad market days.  😆

I won't be buying additional shares unless it drops down to the low 170s again.

I'll continue to hold. I'd only consider taking profits if I saw a substantial change in the trend in the top line, bottom line, or net margins.

Nothing wrong with taking some off the table if that's what your gut tells you. Like the old stock market adage "No one ever went broke taking profits"
