Draft strategy in this 10 man full ppr league with 5 flex spots

Recommended Posts

So it’s a 10 man as said above non keeper with five flex spots so we play 1 mandatory qb one mandatory rb then 5 flex rb/wr/te and one defense no kicker. When a leagues been around 23yrs we look to change it up so premium as I know the drafters and we did this style last year is on wr it gets wr heavy fast and early. I have pick 3. I’m going jefferson. I’m aiming for upside guys if I have a chance vs regression guys like ekelar or Kupp in this spot. Rd 2 plan is best rb, Jones, barkley poss kamara or Lenny then I’m gonna hammer wr for the next 3rds then poss qb in 6th like hurts or lamar then hit rbs after like hunt, aj Dillon, Stevenson, Edmonds in the next few rds to round out rb depth. Takes????

with multiple flex it can get weird.

normally with standard rules starting 2 RB with only one flex, some people draft and play as if they start 3 RB but the draftable RB dry up quickly and once the last couple RB2's go, you are more or less stuck with WR for your flex spots.

but with multiple flex its really about total points straight away.   once you fill your position requirements position doesnt matter much (although I would want at least one backup/flex RB and one backup/flex WR just in case of injury)

after about round 4 or 5, its probably gonna be a parade of WR because there are a lot more scoring WR at that point in the draft than Scoring RB.

I dont know what else to say.   its a bit of a strange league.   Axe Elf really loves these kind of leagues with strange rules and lots of flex spots so he may give you some good insights.

Appreciate the thoughts. Yeah we started this format last year before that it was a std ppr so we then got rid of kickers and opened it up like I said this league is the same guys I’ve been with good hometown buddies for 23yrs now in this league.  so I noticed last year premium goes to wrs when In full ppr once u get past topdog rbs it’s all wrs since really it’s easier for them to point up vs later tier rbs but so I look at it like u said who’s gonna point up more in that flex and it leans more toward wrs but having a stud rb or tier 2 that gets goal line Carries helps. Which is also if zeke is there in the third I may take him too or he may fall as a lot of people are bored of him in this league and they go for wrs and I could get that Pittman jr in the third then zeke in the fourth. My strategy i want is upside so  I’d  pass on lamb prob if he falls in rd 2 but prob won’t and like barkley, Jones or fournette are there  but I’ll def pass on evans, Allen, hill to grab a rb in the second heck even chubb would be fine and then an upside wr in the third then hammer wrs who because of our flex will play and prob have points vs late second third tier rbs.

And yes I love mock drafting but it’s hard to mock past say rd 3 or 4 because with my lineup settings most people hammer rbs in the first two rds because all mocks are std ppr with two starting rbs but in my league that doesn’t happen I just do it to have an idea that most of the top 17 picks are prob similar till my 18th pick then in rd 3 it goes again heavy wrs in my actual league so I can atleast get a feel of who may be there in rd 2 and 3 then all bets are off vs std ppr profile.

well, having a top RB or WR would definitely be seen as an advantage.     probably the first 15 RB's go quickly and after that its mostly WR due to the PPR rules.

even if you are happy with your keepers its prudent to draft a couple players you think could become keepers next year.  I make that my priority the first cpl rounds

I would draft a Qb in the double digit rounds, and use that pick for an upgrade at rb.
