BiPolarBear 483 Posted May 7, 2023 I have the documents showing that my family held 49% of the mineral rights including gas and oil, and anything else occurring on or in the ground. My grandfather could have sold those rights and I just don't have the documentation. Because of this, I have hired a "landman" to determine if the rights are still ours. This is not cheap. $400 a day, open ended. Most likely 3 to 5 days, but could be more, like 14. I would be told in advance, if it is going long, but I am committed to see this through. Brewster County has lots going on Geologically. Rare earth deposits are present. https://bigbendsentinel.com/2021/12/08/rare-earth-mining-project-round-top-near-sierra-blanca-could-have-significant-implications-for-entire-big-bend-region/ Brewster County also has lots of agate lying on the ground. Way rarer, but meteorites can be found. This meteorite is about 6 ounces and sold for six a little over $6K. https://www.bonhams.com/auction/26080/lot/54/pena-blanca-spring-meteorite-partial-slice/ Fossils are also easier to spot due to bare ground. The bad: Use Google Maps and lookup "Hell's Half Acre" in Brewster County. The mineral rights lie very close to that. This has got to rank somewhere high on the list of places to die quick. 5 miles as the crow flies could take 20 miles of actual walk. Very close to the Mexican border as well. A great place to be bushwhacked from a long distance. I was down there in a rainstorm at night and still remember the rattlesnakes, looking for high ground came up on the road, and struck at our tires as we rolled over them. I do realize that there are places to pick up minerals in Brewster county for free, without incurring any cost, but everybody says the mineral rights "could be worth something" and nobody has stepped up to find out. I think I should probably form an LLC. I will be looking into that. If anybody has any words of wisdom for me, besides Fock Off...(countdown to someone telling me to do so) please let me know. 5-Points 3,386 Posted May 7, 2023 Good luck! Are gas and oil considered "minerals?"
Mark Davis 338 Posted May 7, 2023 I used to deal with mineral/mining contracts for a mining company who leased the land and paid royalties. If you find anything or more importantly are approached by someone wanting to lease your property, find representation first who understands that business.
