Well this backfired...over a small amount of $$

misleading headline.  I would say his release had almost nothing to do with the team losing in arbitration and much more to do with the team signing Matt Chapman at third base and Jorge Soler as their DH. They didn't really need Davis and Wilmer Flores both on the bench.

If he had not gone to arbitration, his contract would have been guaranteed.  But since he rejected the contract, he loses because arbitration contracts are NOT guaranteed.   It's not misleading at all

I say misleading because the title makes it sound like the team released him directly because he beat them in arbitration and they were upset about it. 

If they don't sign those other big name free agents, he doesn't get released regardless.

but yes, you are correct that it made it easy for them to do.

Nope. Article headline insinuates he was released directly because he won arbitration. That is not the case
