BiPolarBear 497 Posted February 7, 2025 I played the local clubs in Fort Worth, TX, when I was 19. ZZTop was a higher class band of nobodies than my band. They got the Friday and Saturday night gigs, while we scrubs played Wednesday and Thursdays. The other guitar player in my band got friendly with Gibbons. They did a guitar swap. I got offers to hang with them, but I was young and they didn't have pussies. I never hung with them. I do have a tidbit for you. Gibbons has some story about them getting their name from a Black blues player with "ZZ" in his name. Maybe. But they had the logos for Zig-Zag and Top rolling papers on their gig flyers when they were kids.
